Hi,
I have the Huawei LTE wifi router. I need to know which one of my kids is chewing up all the data. The console will only tell me who is connected at any one time but not how much data they are using. Does anyone know how I can monitor individual usage without having to install monitoring software on each pc?

depending on how many kids you have, you can create 4 different SSIDs on the B593 and see how much data is sent and received through each
 
Has anyone been able to do port forwarding for security cams on the B593? or even play games online (i.e. XBOX live) on the telkom LTE

If you use the B593 as a modem with another router downstream of it, you can also use the B593's DMZ feature to "forward all" ports to the downstream router. This is also useful as a temporary debug measure while setting up port-forwarding.

I use my B593 for gaming on the PS4 with no issues. NAT Type Open, not at home would have posted a screenshot
 
Did you have to do any port forwarding for inbound traffic?
Here is what i have done for my console. Gave it a static IP. Put the IP in the DMZ. Did some specific port forwards (just to make sure even though i'm sure a DMZ is enough). See my COD AW nat type uploadfromtaptalk1446905979498.jpg

We have two xbox one consoles, I will try forwarding to another router and turn off DHCP on B593.

The WAN port.
Even though they actually carry bidirectional traffic, you can think of the ports on both devices as "input" (WAN port) and "outputs" (LAN ports). The "input" of the B593 is the internet, and its output is available on any one of its 4 LAN ports.
The "input" of the downstream router (Router B) is on its WAN port, which needs to come from the "output" (one of the LAN ports) on the B593.
The "outputs" of the downstream router are on its own local LAN ports.

As a general rule, the networks on the LAN and WAN sides of a router must be on different segments, so you will need to assign IP addresses that are on different subnets to the LAN and WAN sides of the router. (see link given below).


2. Must I turn off DCHP on B593?
You will want your "main" DHCP server to be on the downstream router, to give IP, DNS and gateway addresses to your LAN clients.
So you will probably want to turn off DHCP on the B593 and use fixed IP addressing there, yes. That's the easiest setup to get going with.


There are many ways to set up the IP addressing around the downstream router in a scheme like this. The most recent write-up on this thread was given by sajunky here. You can follow that recipe.

I have everything working as prescribed in sajunky's post, I now get the internet from Router B - but I'm still having issues with port-fowarding, I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Could it be the firmware version?

the DVR is connected to Router B with an IP 192.168.2.5, I can access the DVR if I use that IP on a local client. The port forwarding setup above used to work fine on this router when I had ADSL, until the thieves destroyed the Telkom infrastructure.

I don't know what else I could be missing

Yes. Your setup looks fine to me, and you have internet on segment 192.168.2.x.

No, that's the latest firmware for the B593-s601. No problem there.

That line just means that any port opened explicitly will be forwarded, irrespective of the inbound firewall policy. No problem there either.
If you're running the B593 in DMZ mode, ALL inbound traffic on all ports is being forwarded to the DMZ host (192.168.1.2), to be handled by the Zyxel router. This is irrespective of firewall and port-forwarding settings on the B593.

As mentioned above, the port-forwarding rules on the B593 should have no effect for traffic forwarded to the DMZ host.

I do hear what you're saying about the setup having worked on ADSL before, but are you sure that your DVR needs only 1 port to operate ?
For instance, on the setup for my cameras shown here, all four ports are needed for the cameras for negotiation, config, streaming etc.
Obviously when you access the DVR from the LAN, all ports are implicitly open. When coming from the WAN side only the ports specifically allowed by Router B (currently only port 37777) will be open. Double check your DVR documentation to see what ports are needed and check that you've opened them all.

You could also try disabling the Zyxel firewall and opening all ports on the Zyxel (temporarily!!) to see if you can get remote camera access that way.

If none of that works, I'd suggest temporarily connecting the camera direct to the B593 as the only client, and placing that client (the camera) in the B593's DMZ. The easiest way to try this is probably to keep the B593 setup as it is (LAN IP at 192.168.1.1; DMZ host at 192.168.1.2) and re-configure the camera to be at 192.168.1.2. That way the camera is connected as directly as possible to the internet. Then see if you can get access from outside (like with a laptop on 3G) and if it works, work backwards from there.

Lastly, it could be an issue with the LTE APN having some port restrictions, someone else may know more about that.
 
@Turbogo, since you mentioned your LAN devices have internet access your routing should be ok, but just to cross check & make sure, did you uncheck the "Apply as default gateway" option for your ADSL interface, and checked "Apply as Default gateway" on the EthWAN interface? What do you have for NAT settings on the Zyxel on your ETHWAN interface? Under the Zyxel firewall do you have the WAN to LAN zone check as permit? Here are screenshots from my Zyxel router with fields I'm referring to.

I think I should add that the first step in my guide of congiguring DMZ (disabling WLAN) is optional.
It was included to keep configuration easy to understand. Once everything is working, you can try to enable these options and build separate LAN based on Huawei, assuming you understand a note below.

In the home equipment like this, device on the DMZ link is completely separated from all other devices on the LAN/WiFi. In other words, if you plug other devices to the Huawei (by cable or WiFi), they can access Internet and they will see each other, but none of them will be able to communicate with devices on the DMZ link and in reverse. This is made for security. Lets take for example, that someone put a single computer or game console in DMZ. Such device is not protected by router's firewall and if it had access to other LAN users, it would be bypassing firewall security on the entire LAN.

This was a puzzle for me (I'm not tech inclined), but figured it out. The example helped a ton:

(Quoting sajunky but changing this for my experience)
If you are gong this route, here is short guide for bridging Huawei "Gateway Router" (GR - B315) and better router (BR - Asus 68RT):

1: Disable WLAN and DHCP on the GR
2: Enable DMZ on the GR - 192.168.8.1
3: Setup WAN interface IP address of the BR - 192.168.8.2. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Default gateway 192.168.8.1. DNS server 1 192.168.8.1.
4: Change LAN interface IP address of the router, it must a different LAN segment than GR 192.168.1.2
5. Set default gateway on the router and point it to the GR 192.168.8.1

Example:
GR IP=192.168.1.1 [default] (connect LAN port GR to the WAN port of the router)
Router's WAN port IP=192.168.1.2
Router's LAN interface IP=192.168.2.1
Default Gateway on the router 192.168.1.1
Netmask 255.255.255.0 (everywhere)

Sorry I know the above is a bit of a mess but that's the chronological order I was presented with the options. Thanks sajunky!
