That's the problem. They have the opportunity to make a killing in the market with a well specced car at a decent price, but we all know it will be too expensive.

5 years ago their 150kw Veloster already cost R400k, in comparison a current day Clio RS costs around R460k with 162kw.

Hyundai quietly delivers first official glimpse of new i20 N hot hatch
Hyundai has quietly served up the first official glimpse of its upcoming i20 N, with a silhouette of the hot hatch appearing at the end of a promotional video.
Published on YouTube by Hyundai’s Austrian division, the 26-second clip shows the standard third-generation i20 from various angles. But right at the end of the video, a shot of what must be the new i20 N appears, followed by the words “to be continued”.
Judging by the shadowy teaser (and applying a spot of logic), the new i20 N will boast a more aggressive body kit, including a cheeky rear spoiler. It also appears to be running on very distinctive alloy wheels, while a red stripe has been applied along its side-skirt.

While most teaser campaigns are blatant about what it is that’s on the way, Hyundai is being cryptic with what is almost certainly the first official preview of the i20 N.
Latched to the end of a promotional video (below) that shows off the all-new i20 hatchback is a short clip showing the silhouette of a version with racier styling, as evidenced by the large roof spoiler, bonnet bulge and chunkier wheels.
This is followed by “To be continued”.
Given the brand elevation achieved by the i30 N, which was recently launched in South Africa, an N-badged version of its smaller sibling is an absolute no brainer, and the striking design of the latest i20 certainly lends itself to a performance derivative.

Last year we saw spy shots of an i20 N test mule being put through its paces and more recently, Hyundai revealed a new and rather sporty-looking i20 hatchback. A fully-fledged i20 N just seems like a logical step for Hyundai’s N Division which has a wealth of motorsport experience to draw upon considering its successful exploits with the i20 in the World Rally Championship (WRC).
Recent promotional i20 video content from Europe points to a sporty silhouette of what we think is an i20 N. Giveaway features include a chunky high-mounted spoiler, beefier wheels and red detailing seen along the side skirts.

In keeping with its sportier exterior execution, the Korean firm's rival to the Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Yaris and, above all, Volkswagen Polo, has a decidedly youthful – and less utilitarian – interior.
When Hyundai released official images of the next-generation i20 last month (ahead of the Geneva Show, which was subsequently cancelled), we were left feeling a trifle short-changed when there was a detailed description of the interior, but just a stylised sketch and a solitary image of the new car’s cabin.

A camouflaged Hyundai i20 N prototype has been filmed testing in Germany, giving us our first proper listen to the upcoming hot hatch’s exhaust note.
Rather refreshingly (considering petrol particulate filters required under WLTP regulations seem to be stifling soundtracks), the little B-segment blaster sounds fairly angry. Expect power to come from a version of the Korean firm’s turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol unit, with its peak output likely to roughly match that of the 147 kW Volkswagen Polo GTI.

Hyundai has released official images that show its upcoming i20 N performance supermini testing alongside the firm’s WRC racer and mid-engined RM19 prototype.
The long-awaited Ford Fiesta ST rival has previously been seen at the Nurburgring sporting heavy camouflage, but the wraps have started to come off as winter testing gets under way in Arjeplog, Sweden, giving us an idea of how it will be set apart from the recently facelifted standard car.
The prototype pictured is painted in the N division’s now-familiar shade of grey and sits atop a set of bespoke sports alloys wrapped in low-profile rubber, behind which lie much bigger front and rear brake discs than those of the standard i20. The i20 N also appears to sit closer to the ground for a lower centre of gravity and improved dynamic performance.

It wasn’t really a secret, was it? Well, the new Hyundai i20 N has finally been confirmed anyway, with the Korean firm releasing two teaser videos of the new hot hatch.
The clips, which were shot in Arjeplog in Sweden, show a camouflaged prototype version of the new i20 N, with WRC driver Thierry Neuville at the wheel.

Also on course is the all-new Hyundai i20, which boasts a far more striking exterior and interior design than the current model. Its proportions are sportier too, with the car having been widened by 30mm and lowered by 24mm, while the length and wheelbase have grown by 5mm and 10mm respectively.

A fresh report out of Korea claims the new Hyundai i20 N hot hatch will be offered with the option of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
According to thekoreancarblog.com, the i20 N will be available with the choice of a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch cog-swapper. Interestingly, the latter differs from the eight-speed item already rolled out to the Veloster N.
The publication furthermore reports the B-segment hot hatch will draw its urge from Hyundai’s turbocharged 1,6-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine (rather than a detuned version of the 2,0-litre unit employed by the i30 N).

Hyundai’s new supermini arrives in the UK in pre-production guise
We would have to drive the finished product before offering a definitive buying decision but, based on this brief pre-production drive, things seem pretty promising. Add in the fact that Hyundai will offer certain variants of the i20 with a range of active safety systems usually found only on larger cars and even greater levels of connectivity than before and there’s plenty to like.
Prices for the i20 are yet to be confirmed, but expect Hyundai to kick things off at around £15,000 with prices for the higher-end models such as this one starting around the £21,000 point. In any instance, watch this space.
