New Hyundai i20 hatch officially unveiled: engine options detailed
Hyundai has officially taken the wraps off its new i20 hatchback a day after images of the third-generation model leaked early.
Set to be built at Hyundai’s production plant in Turkey, the new i20 will make its debut at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.
So, let’s take a look at the engine options. Markets in Europe are set to receive two engines and three transmission choices. The first is a 1,0 T-GDi petrol mill offered in two states of tune (74 kW and 88 kW). Interestingly, this turbocharged unit will be offered with a 48 V mild-hybrid system as an option on lower-powered model and as standard on the 88 kW version.
Models with the 48 V system fitted can be specified with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a “newly developed” six-speed manual gearbox (the latter including a function that allows it to decouple from the engine once the driver releases the accelerator, facilitating a fuel-saving “coasting mode”).

After yesterday's exterior image leak, the Hyundai i20 has been revealed officially, giving us more details and a peek at the interior.
We've already seen what the new Hyundai i20 will look like, but the leak lacked an interior photograph as well as specification and engine details. Now Hyundai has revealed more info about its B-segment car, which will go up against the likes of the Polo, Fiesta, Corsa, Mazda2.
In terms of engines, the new Hyundai i20 will be available with a 1.0-litre turbocharged motor coupled to a 48-Volt mild-hybrid setup. Two states of tune are available: 74 kW or 88 kW. This engine is available with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed intelligent manual gearbox. The entry-level engine is the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder with 61 kW and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Torque figures were not supplied.

Hyundai reveals new i20 with bold looks inside and out
Hyundai’s third-generation i20 hatchback has been revealed ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut and it has no intention of being an also-ran in the hotly contested B-segment. In fact, Hyundai is promising to set new standards here with a striking design inside and out, as well as “best-in-class” connectivity and the most comprehensive safety package in the Polo class.
Its proportions are sportier too, with the car having been widened by 30mm and lowered by 24mm, while the length and wheelbase grow by a respective 5mm and 10mm. Despite the increased dimensions, the new i20 hatch is 4% lighter than its predecessor.
Hyundai is only showing us a design sketch of the cabin for now, but it’s clear that the i20 makes a radical design shift with its twin 26cm instrumentation and infotainment screens, and horizontal blades that sweep across the top of the dashboard, incorporating the air vents. In keeping with the high-end theme, the car is also available with a Bose premium sound system for the first time.

Now the new, third-generation Hyundai i20 has been revealed, thoughts have turned to the hot hatch version, with a digital artist having already rendered the rumoured i20 N.
X-Tomi Design created the single render you see above, handing the standard version of the hatchback a more aggressive front bumper, complete with larger air intakes and a red accent line along its lip.
The digital artist furthermore added “N” badging to the grille, repeating the logo on the upsized alloy wheels and large red brake callipers. Chunkier side skirts and what appears to be a fairly subtle rear spoiler have also been thrown into the mix.

The interior of Hyundai's all-new i20 has been unveiled ahead of its planned public debut at the Geneva motor show next week.
The new supermini's cabin represents a significant departure from its predecessor, with two 10.25in screens, a seven-speaker Bose sound system, ambient lighting and a distinctive 'blade' design running horizontally across the dashboard. The digital cluster will change colour depending on the selected driving mode, while the centrally mounted touchscreen gives access to a raft of new connectivity functions, including live traffic and weather data, fuel station locator and smartphone mirroring.

When the new, third-generation Hyundai i20 was revealed (and, indeed, when it was leaked a day earlier), there were no official images of the cabin. But now that’s changed.
Yes, the Korean firm has finally released a photograph of the new hatchback’s interior, showing off its pair of digital screens and interesting horizontal blades stretching across the facia. Hyundai says ambient lighting technology has also been adopted.
Behind the steering wheel you’ll find a 10,25-inch digital cluster with lighting that changes based on the selected driving mode (blue for normal, green for eco and orange for sport). To the right of the tiller, mounted a little higher so as to fall closer to the driver's line of sight, is a touchscreen with the same diameter.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay ship standard, while markets in Europe will have the option of a wireless charging pad, too. There’s also a new Bose audio system featuring eight “strategically placed” speakers, including a subwoofer.

After revealing the third-generation Hyundai i20 hatchback’s exterior last week, the Korean company is now showing us inside its latest Volkswagen Polo rival.
The i20’s cabin is a lot more modern, both in the way it looks and in how it works. Interior stylists have also made it look a bit more interesting with blade-like ridges that run across the dashboard as if they were extensions of the air vents, and this design language also extends to the inner door panels.
The new i20 follows the dual-screen format seen in the latest Polo, with a new 26cm digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and an identically-sized central infotainment screen perched at the top of the dashboard. The instrument screen changes colour depending on the driving mode: Normal = blue, Eco = green and Sport = orange.
The new electronics platform ushers in a range of new connectivity features through Hyundai Bluelink Telematics, offering cloud-based voice-activated assistance and a range of services that offer everything from traffic, parking and weather information to fuel prices and remote control of certain vehicle functions.
The new i20 offers decent sound too, with the flagship offering being an eight-speaker Bose system with eight strategically-placed speakers.

Last year we saw spy shots of an i20 N test mule being put through its paces and more recently, Hyundai revealed a new and rather sporty-looking i20 hatchback. A fully-fledged i20 N just seems like a logical step for Hyundai’s N Division which has a wealth of motorsport experience to draw upon considering its successful exploits with the i20 in the World Rally Championship (WRC).
Recent promotional i20 video content from Europe points to a sporty silhouette of what we think is an i20 N. Giveaway features include a chunky high-mounted spoiler, beefier wheels and red detailing seen along the side skirts.
You will recall that Toyota recently revealed its new Gazoo Racing Yaris and an i20 N would make for an exciting match-up.
