Well if I enjoyed frisbee as a sport (so much as watching it), then yes, I would definitely scream for the team.

But saying rugby is boring, try watching more than 5 games before you make such a statement, the rules stay the same, the strategy (and do not even try to tell me there is no strategy involved) changes. But if you don't like rugby and do not follow it, you will never notice it.

And i wear a bulls t-shirt to show people I am a bulls fan, and I align myself with them, its called passionate about the sport (yes I am one of those people that jump up and down, and I only hugged my buds once, and that was with WC 2007)

and if your team loses, then you become depro and stuff, just because oelie olofse didn't pass to james properly, and William's tri was disqualified, because he basically did it, but was 1 cm short of the line.

what happened to that 1 man-U fan? that's right, he hung himself.

All that depro feelings because some other dude playing in glasgo or somewhere couldn't kick a ball properly.

I just don't see the benefit of it all - so what if blue bulls won, so what.....yep, so what? it doesn't change squat and some guys spent up to a R1000 to watch, probably from so far away they look like ants running around after a crumb of bread

what a way to waste R1000 on such a short amount of time - i'd rather buy something and at least have something to show for it, then sit and watch men play a kids game, throwing a ball around

The big problem with sports is that fans of sports are soo fanatical about their sports, that if someone has a crisis you won't get up out of your little seat in front of the tv but stay there until the game is finished...

But lo and behold if you need something, then whoever else should just drop WHATEVER they are doing and just do what YOU want them to do.

So i'm sorry thats my reason for hating sports in general, because people become so fanatical and in the end it means nothing because everyone is cross with one another...

Yep, i'm sure sports team fanatics have cause the end of friendships and marriage too, with one on the blue side, and the other on the red/pink/yellow it's bound to create conflict.

I like playing chess on the odd occasion (or used to) but i wouldn't dare watch somebody else play, or on TV..... Same with Snooker/Pool

that's what I don't get ? what kick do YOU get out of another person scoring a goal/tri/point or whatever? If you like the competitiveness, at least be a part of the game!

very easy question Devil, and I think I speak for a lot of people when I say this:

- When you play Chess, you are IN the game - getting better can turn you into a pro, and into something. Watching more rugby is only gonna make you dumber, fatter, and waste your life away - there is no achievement you get

this guy died at 85, and was Pro chess player.
this guy died at 85, and watched a lot of Rugby on TV.

...which sounds better.

Ok, as for movies, the same - you get something out of it - you learn of a true story - see what it could of been like at pearl harbor, learn of novels, and interesting things.

now I ask you - what the hell, can you learn from watch rugby every weekend? huh? how to throw a ball better? how to kick a ball? that seems like kiddie stuff to me.

movies are always new, rugby is the same **** over and over.

you do know that becoming a pro chess player requires you to practice as much as a rugby player? (5-8 hours per day +gym) Try thinking 7-8 moves into your opponent's mind. While I do agree with you that screaming and going all fanatical about sport is stupid look at it this way. What is entertainment anyways apart from your eyes glued onto something while you do nothing? The average person lives about 62 years , what we do in between is something t o keep us buzy until we die.

Now watching sport is always more fun with a few friends around the T.V have a good braai etc, memories like those that keep us happy. As for the psychological part of being sad when my team loses, nah not really I won't have a bad week even if the bulls lose this weekend. It is nothing more then a game to me.

So basically you hate sports because of some fanatics? Strange, do you hate food because some people have an obsession with food? Don't think so. Do you hate your car, cause some mechanics rip people off? Uhm, nope, don't think so.

Guess what, some people enjoy watching sports...like stated before....to entertain.

And guess what, if i want to wear a bulls jersey, mercy me, but I will, if I want to jump up and down in my own house...guess what...whooppee I will, and if I want to enjoy the greatest sport, with some buds over a braai and beers, guess what your and Peder's sour attitude won't even take an inkling of an idea in the back of my head.

Its a sport, it has supporters/fans/fanatics. Its the dynamic of any sport, if you don't get it, then I am not even going to try and help you.

Think I should start a couple of threads : "F1, not really a sport", "Soccer, something played by metros not wanting to dirty themselves"

Oh come on. Everyone on the planet is fanatical about something or other.

That's not a sports flaw that's human beings in general mate.

i've seen threads on this forum carry on for pages and pages with people arguing over what's better and what isn't. It's fanatical.

As for religion. What do you think causes someome to become a suicide bomber? They are fanatical to the point where nothing else matters.

The human mind has the potential to become obsessed to the point of being fanatical about anything. It all depends on who the perceiver is.

Sport is entertaining for some and not for others.

Liking or disliking sport is everybody's right.

Creating a thread debating the issue seems a waste of time, energy and bandwidth.:D

lets switch this around a bit - I wanna hear your opinions.

Ok, so if guys compete to a frisbee throwing contest, you also see the real thing - all those months of training, blood sweat and tears for victory. teams vs teams, they got names like the "bisons" and the blue team "blou blasies" and they even have guys wearing shorty shorts.

Doesn't this get boring after competition event #163 ?
What does screaming at the TV achieve ?
Does wearing a "blou blasie" T-shirt make you cool ?
Will it help my life if i've spent 50% of my free time on watch frisbee contests? (Including all 28 events of the oh so Spectacular double whopper champs of champs frisbee SOLO contest in japan)

Nope because you learn more about the game.
Nothing. People who go overboard with it are a bit silly but it is there right.
Nope no one said it makes you cool, thats your opinion. I am a huge Blue Bulls supporter and I dont own a Blue bulls shirt/hat/cap/jacket/glass/helmet/bakkie.
If you spend 50% of your life watching any one thing you are retarded imo. (well maybe if you watch megan fox naked for 10 years it wont hurt :p)

Whats your hobby?

Now tell us the truth, you were always the last kid to be picked for any team at school right? :p

and if your team loses, then you become depro and stuff, just because oelie olofse didn't pass to james properly, and William's tri was disqualified, because he basically did it, but was 1 cm short of the line.

what happened to that 1 man-U fan? that's right, he hung himself.

If you kill yourself because of your team losing great, it removes you from the gene pool. But other people kill themselves over other things thats just as stupid.

Yep, i'm sure sports team fanatics have cause the end of friendships and marriage too, with one on the blue side, and the other on the red/pink/yellow it's bound to create conflict.

Lol, if your marriage was ended because of team loyalties you are sad.
So you watch no shows at the theater or on tv where people show their skills?

Its a sport, it has supporters/fans/fanatics. Its the dynamic of any sport, if you don't get it, then I am not even going to try and help you.

Think I should start a couple of threads : "F1, not really a sport", "Soccer, something played by metros not wanting to dirty themselves"

+1. Each to his/her own and some to none.

If you don't like it good for you :D But trying to tell people that watching sport is pointless is just stupid and not well thought through as that would make any form of entertainment that we watch stupid. (barring the cooking and kniting channel:p)

It just seems like a kiddie game, that's all - you are watching grown men play with a ball ffs, can't you see that ?

If I wanna see something run after a ball i'll throw it to my dog.

Do you feel the same way about games? Or does blowing up aliens in a mythical world not count as a being a little "kiddie" in comparison?
