Welcome to the new year, so for us that are still keen to get the iPhone 4s, it might be useful to start a "easterhunt" for the elusive little gadget.

So, here is how it works:

If you know of a store that has the little bugger, please post the following:

1. Time and date
2. Place (E.g. Sandton City, Vodacom shop, Sandtion)
3. Model / Make available (e.g. 32GB black)
4. Waiting list (is there one or not)

Well, it seems this thread might be dead for a while. Confirmed that stock will only be available end of the month (and I'm number 671 on the list :( )

Anyone having problems Cell C on iPhone 4s? I'm on my second cell c micro sim, still getting the 'no service' error. I updated firmware to 5.0.1 and it made no difference.

However, when I used my friend's MTN and Vodacom micro sims, it works fine. Didn't want to resort to getting MTN or Vodacom, seems to be the only logical thing to do now.

Have called a few stores, but cannot find stock of the 4s.
I understand some places do have stock... just not sure where.

Anyone know?

Phoned just about every store near Cape Town this morning...

Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Some stores have over 100 on the waiting list, and are only able to secure 7 units per week...

Anyone know if you can "pay-off" a Iphone direct from the Apple store?

iStores only sell the iPhone 4S on contract with Vodacom & MTN. Trust me, I've asked around.

I eventually gave up and bought a second hand iPhone 4. I'm very happy with my decision.

There's a huge waiting list for the iPhone 4S on contract, so there's going to be a long waiting period before they become available on prepaid/cash.

A salesman from Incredible Connection said that they expect stock at the end of the month, but I would take that info with a pinch of salt.

Chatz Cellular in Centurion Mall promised delivery between 3 - 5 working days when my wife did her upgrade yesterday. I will confirm whether this was true between 3 - 5 working days...

Vodacom Direct delivered my phone in 2 weeks, and my brothers in 2 days lol

Maybe you should just ask them :P

Put my name down on the waiting list at the local store - and I also logged an online request on Friday. Will see what will come through first. I'm only able to upgrade on the 20th! So hoping I should get lucky by then....

I saw Vodacom ads for the iPhone 4s in the Sunday Times yesterday. Still wondering if they have stock

I doubt, did an upgrade over the phone and received an sms stating that I will be notified as soon as stock is available. Call Centre agent says there's a two weeks waiting period even for new contracts

Looks like I'm also going to have to go this route. I can only phone from tomorrow onwards. What number did you use - just the standard Vodacom callcentre number ( and have them redirect you?)

0821950 free from a Voda number. Btw got mine in less than 48 working hours and not the two weeks

Did that yesterday. Am finally on a proper waiting list. They also told me that I could wait about 2 weeks, but your story gives me hope! :)

I hardly ever need to use the phone for making calls, so went for the 120-package. 120 minutes talk anytime, and 500mb data per month. The latter will probably see me topping up quite regularly...

Mtn contract phones available at apple istore in Menlyn
Woodlands Vodacom shop has one or two iPhones.

One of my friends at [major cellphone retailer] mentioned to me this weekend that their newest batch of iPhones don't want to activate through iTunes, they phoned core who is aware of the issue but declined to comment on the amount of phones out there with this issue.

They were told to open and test all the devices which leads me to believe that the problem is slightly bigger then they are making it out to be.

I'm fishing for some more details from his GF but haven't got anything to report back.

Has anyone else experienced that their phones didn't want to activate? If the issue is big more people should start confirming this in the next few days.

As far as I know....any iOS device that has the latest software, does not need iTunes to activate the device. Perhaps this new batch of phones, are still running on the old software ?
