Much higher spec CPU, more ram, apps launch quicker

possible video camera - yah, I know cycorder does this, but cycorder is limited as it can't encode fast enough with the current CPU

better built cover for the phone

digital compass is much more usefull than you think, go play with google earth app (not maps) and you'll see... Google earth is another app that will benifit from faster CPU b.t.w

higher end CPU also makes it more possible that flash will finally make it's debut on the phone

oled screen - need I say more (and it uses less power)

and everyone's down on their knees praying for a battery upgrade...

For the things that I want to record on a phone, Cycorder works just fine.

I've NEVER needed a compass before in my life, let alone on my cellphone, so don't think that's going to be useful.

Benefits of an OLED screen compared to LCD: Much brighter, perfect off-angle colours, perfect Blacks instead of not truly-black blacks. Much better contrast ratio, much thinner, lower power consumption.

Yep Apple better put one of these in the next iPhone.

More RAM and a faster CPU are nice to have of course.

Better camera? Yes please!

Flash support: not gonna happen.

Why a compass? Basically to tell what direction you're facing in Maps. GPS will tell you your position but not your orientation.
 
Is there anyway that I can download the OS upgrade (2.2.1) on my iTunes account and then copy it to the SO's iTunes installation on her computer so that she can update her phone without downloading it twice?
 
Yes. If you have already downloaded you can locate the .ipsw file which is the update.

Else download it manually.

Copy that to the other PC. Then put the phone in DFU mode. Now connect the iPhone..
Now Shift-click the "restore" button. iTunes will ask you to locate the .ipsw file, and update from it.
 
Sounds to me that they new iPhone speculated specs are ok, not mind blowing but ok....Then again the iPhone as it is, is dam near perfect to me so hell who cares about the new one, I got one and that’s all I care about ;) :D

Personally for me I don't really care about the new phone, but OS3 I am really looking forward to.

Basically if you can get a good deal on a current iPhone 3G do it and do it now! Cause when the new one is here, the old ones are out and you are going to have a huge pay in once again for at least a year.

New iTunes update 8.2 - compatible with the iPhone OS 3 update.

I think OS3 is very close!!! Whoohoo!!

Been holding off - I need my phone and I have been hurt by the bleeding edge in the past... looking forward to doing a dead normal; man in the street upgrade (most likely for the first time in my life!)
 
just checked with fuzzyband, i cant downgrade.

my bootloader is
05.09 (g2m3s2)

and base is
ice2-0211.07

2.1 os.

so there's no point of me trying to upgrade to 2.2.1?
should i just wait for os 3.0 and hopefully it will be able to be jailbroken?
 
My new Apple Iphone 3G 16GB is loaded with the 2.2.2 firmware (preloaded). I assume that this means I don't have to go through the Steps 1 - 3 on the iClarified tutorial? :confused:

So I have to do the Steps 4 - 12.

If I am correct let me know please. I started as instructed by the site Steps 1,2 & 3.

Midway through this the update it crashed. I was then forced to downloaded the update via iTunes and run the update.:mad:

If this is so can somebody make this clear before the next guy do what I did and in the middle of the night have a small heart attack:eek:

As far as I know the Hong Kong iPhones are unlocked like ours? have you tried it without the turbosim just with a regular vodacom simcard?

there is no OS 2.2.2, the latest is 2.2.1

you still have to download the ipsw to jailbreak, the jailbreak process needs the ipsw (the OS firmware file downloaded from apple either using iTunes, or downloaded manually)

what update crashed halfway through? jailbreaking and updating is not the same thing
 
thanks Roland i will do that. Question ? How can I get safari to default to mybb mobile? The minute I goto mybb forums it goes to the normal mybb. How dp I change it back to mybb mobile

Why would you want to? I've never used the mobile version...
