But it came from their website, via update in Itunes

Your previous firmware was Pwned that's why.. This was while it was updating.. Your Pwned firmware had replaced the restore logo to the steve jobs one and when it enters restore mode at the beginning before it updates is where you saw the logo.

That will be replaced now by 3.0 logos though (i.e. standard apple logos)

MMS Settings are there - but how do you send one. There is no option in messenging? I suppose I must do the ippc file thing

Turn MMS messaging on or off:

In Settings, tap Messages, then tap MMS Messaging to turn it on or off. You may want to turn MMS Messaging off, for example, to prevent sending or receiving attachments when fees apply.

NOTE: The MMS Messaging setting doesn’t appear if MMS isn’t supported by your carrier.

If it's not there I guess you need the .ipcc
What do you mean shift update??
Same place you update your iPhone (the update button in the iPhone tab in iTunes)

Hold shift (or option on Mac OSX) and click on the update button. It will ask you to browse for a .ipsw. Change the drow down box to browse for .ipcc's and then apply the ipcc. (ipcc option will only be there after you modified your iTunes as explained in my previous post)

Great, trusty iTunes. I get to 230.0 downloaded with 2 seconds left on the clock and what happens? The network connection times out. And no resume possible. I'm using a direct link now, forget iTunes - a download manager is far more reliable.

How frustrated I am right now, I can't even express it.

Under MMS put the following info in and leave all other fields blank

MMSC: mmsc.vodacom4me.co.za
Proxy: 196.006.128.013:8080

Proxy: 196.031.116.250:8080 (or 9201)

Proxy: 196.11.240.241:8080

I have only tried this on vodacom so dunno if the other networks work...
