At vodaworld, buy your 3Gs at metro, NOT VODASHOP, they are 1000 Rand cheaper on 32gig, they have 22 32gigs, 12 16gigs left as of now, one less 32 that's now mine

Awesome 32GB white - sooo jealous - that's exactly what I want :D
My black 16GB 3G is not even a year old yet - don't really want to fork out the cash or get a new contract just to get the 3GS. I'm gonna have to hold out for a bit :rolleyes:
Enjoy ur phone :cool::cool::cool:

iPhone Firmware 3.0.1 is out
See: http://www.tuaw.com/2009/07/31/did-we-say-saturday-iphone-os-3-0-1-out-now-to-block-sms-exploi/
Maybe it's already Saturday in the UK, or close to it: Apple has released iPhone OS 3.0.1 for iPhone, iPhone 3G & 3GS, an update that patches the phone to prevent bad actors from taking it over or taking it down with the just-demoed SMS exploit. The update weighs in at close to 300 MB (like all iPhone updates, it's a full image of the OS), and as far as we can tell there are no other fixes or tweaks; just the privilege of continuing to use your iPhone in peace and security.
Update with care, and let us know in the comments how the update works for you!

People with Jailbroken devices would be advised to hold off as always.

So all you who were lucky enough to get a 3GS ... start your downloading. Here are direct download links:

Firmware 3.0.1 for iPhone 2G

Firmware 3.0.1 for iPhone 3G

Firmware 3.0.1 for iPhone 3GS

Edited at theron.rolands request:
before downloading, jailbreak is not yet available, so upgrading to this firmware will temporarily remove any jailbreak until the dev team release an update to redsn0w that supports this firmware

IMPORTANT WARNING FOR 3GS OWNERS - DO NOT INSTALL THIS FIRMWARE BEFORE GRABBING YOUR iBEC AND iBCC FILES, THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH A PHONE CURRENTLY ON 3.0 - SEE ICLARIFIED FOR TUTORIAL

i know you're just trying to help, but a lot of guys will just read and do without knowing the damage they're doing

iPhone 3Gs springboard resprings in under 2 seconds.... muahahahaha

Most important questions;

Hows the battery life compared to the 3g?
Does the extra memory help with backgrounding multiple apps?

and a follow on question;

Do backgrounded apps like IM clients lose their data connection while in the background?

no backgrounding, that's what push is for - push keeps im apps signed in even if they're not running

battery life is 20% up from 3G as per specs

Congratz to all the guys with the new phones, soooo jealous!

I've got a couple of questions:
1. Everytime I enter the MMS settings I lose the ability to browse with safari, is there a fix for this? (Rolands gonna bite my head off)
2. Any suggestions regarding a app to view and edit MS OFFICE documents? I've read about quick office but before paying $12.99 I just need to make sure its the best on offer!
3. Has Cydia been fixed yet? I still havent jaikbroken because of the issues with Cydia!

Soz for the noob question, first time in ages I've visited the forum!

app store - DocsToGo - excellent, there's two versions, make sure you get the right one, exchange version is great if you have an exchange email

Anyone taken the jump to 3.0.1 yet? Any thoughts?
I'm not sure if I want to download the +- 300MB just for the SMS exploit fix. Now if there are a few usage enhancements, then maybe...

Thanks a lot Roland, really appreciate!

Sucks not being able to use the OS's MMS capabilities!

Yeah, then it's jailbreak time again!

Roland enjoying your 3Gs? Sooo jealous!!

I agree - not going to install 3.0.1 - rather wait for for 3.1. ... and don't know if I'm going to go for the 3GS - just doesn't warrant the pay in price on a weekender upgrade (R4999) - rather cancel that extra VC contract that is not being used (except to upgrade a phone every year).
Unless the IPCC's have been sorted in the 3.0.1 upgrade which I doubt.

Well, decided to download it. Restoring now. Will see if the IPCCs are fixed (also doubt it though)...

I went to 3.0.1, I may not have bothered as it was just the SMS thing in the release nothing else .... but ....
This morning I just got my 3G back from Vodacare (the ring/silent switch broke and eventually they agreed to swop the phone under warranty) so I thought I may as well go to the .1 release. All seems happy, and as expected.
