Can I ask some opinions on fw 2.0 so far? Some issues with 1.1.4 and lower on the std firmware were things like the predictive text that is always on, the call forward message, and caller id issues. Do you have these?

Well after i clean restored to 2.0 (clean install, didnt restore from a back up), my caller ID was fine and i am getting no call forwarding messages like before. Usually i would just edit the Carriers.plist file, but this time there was no need.
I assume they must have fixed both these problems in the new firmware. But dont take my word for it.

Yeah, WinPwn is released for fw2.0, but I see there is a bug or two. Think I will personally wait for Installer.

@avdp - I ssh'd in and copied all the stuff i needed such as sms, calender, addressbook etc

Pwnage 2.01 is still buggy. Had a endless reboot cycle. So I restored to to 1.1.4 with zipphone, and did a straight restore to 2.0 with a patched/custom firmware. Presto it works
That makes no sense...
You can only patch 2.0 firmware with pwnage 2.0, also you can pwn with the older pwnage to use a patched IPSW and just build a new IPSW with the new pwnage.
How can it be buggy?
BTW ziphone might mess up you wifi mac address.

Yeah that should work if you just want to copy contacts.. But if you got SSH working, its easier to just copy the Address Book files from /var/mobile/library/AddressBook
Theyre 2 small files. One is for your contacts, and the other the contact pictures.
That's cool. Is it all more or less in one place or are the folders all over the show?

Mine was in /var/mobile/Library
There are folders for each thing. i.e. AddressBook, Calender, SMS, Notes etc
Dont forget to back up your pics as well as the hidden ".MISC" folder in media (those are the thumbnails)
Alternatively, download "iBackup" which will back up everything for you. I dont know if you can restore from the backup on fw 2.0 , but it saves all your files to Program Files/iBackup , and from there you can manually copy them back to the phone.

If you run windows, you can actually use the camera app that autoruns when you attach your iPhone to download your pics.
Thanks! The main stuff I am after is Calendar, SMS and Notes. Can't understand why Apple has not made allowance for that with iTunes.

Where are you purchasing your new iPhone 3G's from? I'm REALLY keen on getting one (NOT on contract but outright purchase) but the iStore at the Waterfront in CT says they'll only be available end August for roughly R6500 - R7000?
