Does anyone's 'Mail' app crash after the Pwnage restore?

2.0 is buggy not really much to do with pwnage, but if you create an IPSW don't install extras like Cydia to keep the firmware as close to stock as possible.

I am very wary of using iBackup accross different fw versioms. Remember what happened to me when I changed from Zibri to Winpwn? Would be cautious personnally and have an alternative just incase.

I simply said make a backup, not to restore from the backup once you have updated.

iBackup backs up all your files to the iBackup install directory in Program Files so that you can be sure you havent missed something.

For example, imaging you think you have backed up AddressBook, but after updating you realise you forgot to.. No problem, just go to the Backed up files in the iBackup install directory and you will find everything that was on your iPhone there..

Regarding the camera roll images, mine are in /var/mpbile/media/DCIM

Be sure to copy the whole folder (including the hidden ".MISC" folder otherwise when you transfer them back to your iPhone, there will be no thumbnails, instead a blank white image)

But as i said, do an iBackup so that you can rest assure that you have backed up everything. Then manually copy the things you want back.

Hmm sounds like a permissions problem..

Are you using WinSCP?

If so, go to /Applications and check the permissions for MobileMail.app.

My permissions are 0775 and the Owner property is "root".

If that doesnt work:

I had a problem before where my contacts werent appearing, but when i changed ownership it worked. i.e. from mobile to root or vice versa.

You can try that using Putty (i assume your on Windows).

The command is:

chown -R root /var/stash/Applications.gZd7cG/MobileMail.app - to change ownership to "root"

or

chown -R root /var/stash/Applications.gZd7cG/MobileMail.app - to change ownership to "mobile"

*these are the locations of my MobileMail.app. Yours may vary. Im just giving you a basic idea.

Lemme know what happens ;)

I installed Cydia :D Slowly but surely the apps are being ported over to 2.0. Poof, NES, MacMan (Pacman clone which is pretty cool), BossPrefs, BossTool and a few others... Not too bad so far ;)

Any other tips you have found out that you can share with us?

I found out that for the MixMeister app (free) from AppStore, you can save your own song as a .wav (or .aif) and transfer it to /var/mobile/Applications/62D206A7-3A55-4CDC-BEDF-239C2B615ECC/Scratch.app and you can scratch your own tunes :p Pretty cool i must say, apart from the big file sizes of the .wav's ;)

Sounds cool, nice tip thanks... although mixmeister's scratching is not as accurate as I would like it to be.

@fxit - my apologies, i misread your post on iBackup. I now understand your reasoning. Will def be doing a backup before I upgrade now. Thx

How about some feedback from those on fw2. How are the phones behaving? Any troubles? Any great improvements?

My phone is running a bit slower. This can be because of Cydia or just a buggy 2.0 software. Most of the guys on the forums say it Cydia and if they remove it from the custom firmware and do a restore the phone works better. The the other half is saying its happening with legit iphones on 2.0 software. I dont think its cydia but I might give it a try later.

Also you will have a bit less space on you 8GB phone as they have increased the boot partition size.

Aurora Faint game (free) - and it really use the accelerometer very well. The game is in its infant stage and more is to come of it.
Remote app - works great with my itunes library at home on the wifi and I have tested it with the girls itunes too. Just map to itunes library and start playing.
Google maps - the location function works much better as its now fine tuned to work with the GPS of the new 3G phones. So if I am in CT I can get a almost spot on location without having the GPS phone.
Calculator - this is a nice touch. Normal calc in upright position and scientific calc in landscape mode.
Screen capture functions - If you want to take a picture of your screen in any page just press the home and sleep button at the same time and the screen will flash white and you will have a screen capture in you camera roll

Im happy with the 2.0, although its noticeably slower (not that much just a tad more). As gunslinger said, it might be due to Cydia, but it doesnt bother me that much so I can live with it.

The App Store apps/games are awesome. Great addition in my opinion.

I've had no troubles so far.. Calculator is also a great improvement as gunslinger explained.

The remote app is amazing.. Especially when paired with my AppleTV.. It rocks and its free!

Havent got much more to add to what gunslinger said.. No point in hanging back on 1.1.4 though unless theres an app you cant live without that hasnt been ported to 2.0 yet, but they're being ported slowly but surely.

Ok Ladies and Gents

Here is what I was upto now. My phone was not it self after me running the pwnage tool. I had only two apps installed Remote and Aurora Feint because I was worried about the phone hanging up all the time. But with the two apps it was fine. What I did see is if I am in a call and I want to open a sms it takes time. Also when I am in mail and want to go to my phone it takes time to see my contacts. It was just a bit on the sluggish side. So this is what I did as I had a bit of time.

Ran a last backup/sync

I ran the pwnage 2.01 tool again and rebuilt the custom firmware file but this time without the Cydia installed. I just de-selected it and carried on with the instructions. I kicked out a new 2.0 custom .ipsw file. I restored it in Itunes 7.7. All is well.

I played around with the phone to make sure its fast like I was having with 1.1.4. It was behaving like 1.1.4. Happy me - next step
I restored the whole phone and after the reboot I checked it again. Still smooth. Then I did the big sync to get all my podcasts, audiobooks, music and apps back. After the restore and a bit of testing it seems to be working a bit smoother but then its a fresh restore. I took some calls and made some call to check that its working. All fine

I opened the apps played a bit of Aurora Feint and closed it a few times and its fine. I will now keep an eye on it and see if its working better without Cydia.

Like it is now after 45 min of playing around.... still smooth.

I will keep you guys posted.
