data is setup i have paid alot but i have learnt two lessons, dont rush into something and secondly read more forums like this one.

when the phone is launched here can we then get rid of the turbo sim

Well that remains to be seen. I have no idea how the activation server will work here, but I guess it would be very possible for Vodacom to load it up with the serial number of phones it has sold. That will mean the grey imports will have to carry on using turbisims. This is however purely speculation.

I dont want to sound stupid, but isnt the only way to get past the turbosim, going to be once DevTeam or whoever finally unlocks it?

@ avdp
When Vodacom sells it here, only the legal vodacom iphones will work unlocked. Otherwise the Turbosim ad Devteam route will be the only other way.

Anybody have an idea to get swirlymms working on my 1st gen iphone. Service provider MTN. FW 2.1. Pwned.

Can't send anything. Gives me a proxy error and have tried everything!

Raxton you were scammed, if I were you I'd ask for my money back and return the phone if they refuse then you should report them.

Vodacom most likely will sell the iPhone for R5000-R6000 prepaid.

I agree. Completely.
Sorry dude, but as soon as Vodacom releases the iphone you are going to kick yourself.
My condolences.

The article on the 1st gen iPhones I read a while back made it sound like all the activation server looked for was that the SIM matched the provider you were activating for. So in theory if you have a grey import and you have a vodacom SIM you should be able to activate your phone, providing there isn't an additional check (i.e. is your serial number on the list of phones Vodacom imported). Obviously once activated it will keep looking for the providers SIM. So you can't activate it on one and simply swap the SIM over.

SwirlyMMS working fine on iphone 2.1

Hey guys,
My MMS'ing just came to life (on MTN) suddenly.
Can send AND recieve all my MMS'es.
Used the 8080 proxy and no password.

But actually after a day of trying all the setting that is possible on a phone, I think the real trick was this:

RESTART.

I think that is what did the trick, to just restart (off and on) my iphone.
I feel like a twat.
It's always that little things that get you...

High 5's!

The activation does check the phone serial number, so I guess tis a no, you wont be able to unlock your phone. Unless Vodacom allows you to pay a fee to do it (but I really doubt that)

hey guys i upgraded my iphone to the new software and i must say im really im pressed with the applications from the app store. the games r amazing

Has anyone installed an update for Cydia, namely, Mobile Substrate?

This package, of only 48kb, has bombed out my iPhone!! It remains on the pineapply bootlogo screen for hours without loading the OS...

Has this happened to anyone yet? Going to restore once i get home..

Nope but I have read it also gives an error putting your phone into safe mode. If that happens you just have to reboot and its ok. Saurik is working on fixing it.

Him working on fixing doesn't really help me at this current moment!

My phone is unsuable guys :(

I put my phone into DFU mode, since it couldn't start up. iTunes 8 popped up and told gave me the option to restore my device. So I quickly built my own Custom_Restore.ipsw and attempted to restore my phone.

An error 1600 popped up, telling me this phone cannot be restored!

Next, I tried this procedure 2-3 times without success.

Does anyone have ideas I could try out? PLS help, i want my iPhone back :(

Use a normal firmware to restore then run quickpwn afterward to activate.

dobee you a champ!

Read quite a bit of info on hackint0sh, these errors are very common with iTunes8/FW 2.1/PwnageTool 2.1. Had to get a white screen in DFU mode active...

Just a reminder to those of you that haven't yet downloaded Mobile Substrate from Cydia, try not updating it yet till Saurik has sorted it out!

Was that one of the Cydia essentials or an app from one of the repos?

Edit: Some googling later, this seems related to winterboard. So if you don't have it installed you should be safe?

Maybe there is no 3G reception in your area. Have you have 3G reception before in your that same area you aren't getting it now? Try calling your SP, maybe there is a network problem...
