and we hit the 3000 post mark - those 'other' tips and tricks threads have a looong way to go.. Shows the popularity of the iphone - maybe we need our own forum.

BTW, I d/loaded tvGuide but there is no data.. luckily it was not a paid for version.

This is why I some what support piracy. If the product is worth it and it works, then purchase it =) lol!

I really do think we need our own Sub-Forum too...

Something like this:

If i had some time and R1000 to buy the SDK i would have started my own little project trying to develop a nice guide. won't be very graphic though (not my strong point) but it cant be too hard reeading data from an XML file and displaying it in it's time slot.

can someone help please. How do i get Wifi at wifi hotspots? I switch wi-fi on, but cant use it except for at my home :( This is what happens. I go to a place, and search for the wifi - sometimes i need to add it. then there is a password, but i dont know where to put it in, wep, wap or where ever. I tried puting in the wifi name and password, but nothing. Please help!

No not yet unfortunately.

I spoke to vodacom3g on the forums regarding this as every operator should have a code such as #31# that you put before the SMS you send, and it will reply with a delivery report (for phones that do not support the delivery report function)

He said he will speak to Vodacom and try and get it implemented, but i haven't heard anything since.

With regards to the other operators, I haven't spoken to them nor do i know who to contact.

:D WiFi spots aren't really free (in this country anyways)

If you find one's that are password protected, they usually aren't for the public, or they require a WEP key to connect to which the restaurant/shop will provide you with.

If there are open ones, these are usually the public ones. This doesn't mean they are free though. Once you connect to them and try to surf a site, you will be presented with the WiFi spots' landing page. This basically explains that it is a pay-for service and you can pay via credit card, voucher or network provider (telkom, vodacom etc etc.)

Hope that clears it up a bit :)

Thank you Fixit man :) I went to a place where they gave me a user name and voucher, and 30 mins free wi-fi, so i entered in the details, but it didnt want to connect, cos i dont know where to put the password in :( Even if i go to mugg & bean, i cant connect, cos the user name and password doesnt work :( Ill chekc out the link u gave, maybe there are some free wi-fi spots in my area to go test it out :) Thanks again!

oh no :( thats bad news, delivery reports are a huge feature... thanks for the info fxit :)

No prob! That sites still fairly new i think http://www.freewi-fi.co.za/free-hotspots

With the user name and voucher, you connect to the WiFi network as usual (it will usually be open with no security), then go to Safari and try to access a page e.g. Google.

It will present you with the landing page where you can login with the username and password. :D

No problem! Don't let that put you off though! The phone makes up for it in MANY other ways!!

@theron - does this thing work locally now - I see it is in the SA store so I might get it - the 'test' version I installed was a few versions old.

still says no data, it's got a rather funky interface though, landscape mode looks like the dstv tv guide on the decoder
 
Wonder why it ain't loading the data.

Quite annoying as it's only been about a week that is hasn't been loading the data..

Anyone check out the new Cydia Store?

Might even buy the solitary app there - $1 for picture displays in contacts list is nice.

I have a mobileme account so putting contacts pictures up is a cinch - but I see they don't use paypal yet so I will hang in there - not going to sign up with Amazon payments also.

And I don't understand the logging into facebook thing to be able to purchase on the Cydia store - seems like a major roundabout privacy invasion thing to me.
 
I also wanted to check out cyntact, but read on the saurik's page (cydia home page), that they are struggling with intelliscreen and cyntact, and there is a good chance that one or the other will be completely broken, now a broken cyntact is one thing, a broken intelliscreen is far more of a problem, so I will resign to a fate of using the names in fastcontact to lookup
 
Anyone checked out the VW Polo Challenge? The graphics are pretty good and the gameplay is nice.
