I opened a claim with the insurance company today. They did not sound to phased about replacing it. Got some quotes for a replacement phone after work so once I send them through we'll see what they say.

Hopefully they'll pay and then you can get the iPhone 3G in time for OS 3.0

iPhone OS 3.0 will have..
Copy Paste
MMS
Turn by Turn GPS possible
Stereo bluetooth and more.
:)

Cannot receive MMS using Swirly

Hi.

i've installed swirly and can send mms's fine. However, when someone sends me an mms, I get an SMS saying that I can go and see the mms on vodacom4me. how do I get around that?

thanks.

Just checked out all the new updates to be released on iPhone OS 3.0...All I can say is ... FTW WOW OMG!!!!
Can't wait for this, If they incorporated all those changes from the beginning this phone would have taken over the smartphone market much quicker...can't WAIT for those turn-by-turn releases that will be heading our way, the copy and paste looks fantastic, the new Bluetooth support is awesome!
Peer to peer, PC tethering, gaming with voip etc. etc.
This is the best news we've had since the release of the first gen. iPhone... whooohooo!!!
*throws up from anticipation*

anyone have the 3.0 beta OS?? trying to download it now...

No MMS or A2DP for 1st gen? That sucks! This means I must get 3g, or rather wait for next ten iPhone. Will prob be releases with OS3. Which means vodacom will only start stocking them mid 2010. :)

The MMS I'm sure is just disabled and can be enabled by hackers, it's not a hardware issue unlike A2DP.

Just found rapidshare links now, setting up the downloads...

Will only have time to check it out later when I get home...

Apparently it's very laggy... So I won't be keeping it for long - just want to have a quick preview for what to expect... :)

I'm not sure if I should try it when it's still in Beta...hmmm....dammit my fingers are itching!! Maybe I'll just wait for feedback on the stability on 3.0 Beta before taking the plunge, it's not going to be easy to wait though, but in retrospect the features I'm most looking forward to are things like turn-by-turn gps, which won't be out for sometime after the final 3.0 release.

I'm seriously impressed with Apple today, yes, the could have had these things from the beginning, but at least this means they're listening to their users and are fixing/adding what needs to be done, and then some...
The new SDK API's are fantastic, I cannot even imagine what kind of apps we'll be getting in a few months from now. Gone are the days we need to 'defend' our phones to the haters! The copy/pasting with html looks great...MMS and deleting individual sms etc. etc. will mean I can get rid of most of my Cydia apps...and they are the ones causing the most hassle when updating the phone OS.

If they tried to incorporate everything from the start we'd be left with a buggy OS, they were noobs to cellphone technology so progressed slowly IMO.

Agreed completely, but try telling THAT to the critics :D

for those who have itchy fingers...
Those who have applied the yellown0w unlock to their iPhone 3G are reminded not to update to the 3.0 firmware.

With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers. If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.

And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that

Apple are masters of hype dude.
Yes, they might've progressed slowly in order to avoid a buggy OS, but I'm willing to bet that the main reason for the slow progression is to create a lot of hype with each release. Look how exited we are to finally hear that the iPhone will have copy paste and mms!

If the 1st gen had the same features as the 3G, who'd spend more on the 3G if the 1st gen also had 3G and the exact same features?

Also, 3.0 finally includes the things that most would regard as "basics" (mms, copy paste, bluetooth...) because the iPhone has lost a lot of it's hype and a lot of people know that the iPhone lacks these features and thus would rather go for an HTC Touch or a Blackberry Storm or the like (most of which also have better cameras. fscking 2mp piece of crap )

BTW - what exactly will the A2DP bluetooth do? Stereo headsets/wireless earphones?

Yes, and you can also use your phone as a Mic/speaker (like for making skype calls on your PC, phone can act as headset). Very Cool

forum dev group for iphone 3.0

k, so, here's a thought

you can only activate 3.0 beta on your phone if you're a registered 3.0 dev

registration costs 99 us$

so, how about

10 guys from this forum, 9.90 us$ each (can set up a paypal account to gather payment), then register the forum as a dev group?

only thing that might make me scared of 3.0 upgrade, I tether my phone quite often using PDANet (cydia app), need to know i'll still be able to tether after the upgrade, apple did say in the event (Q&A) that they support client side tethering...

so let's get 10 (maybe more??) members who will contribute? that way we can go 3.0 beta legit?
