Thanks limnos - got all the files I need and all info, now off to break the jail :D

Really depends on what you like. I loath those silicone covers and have instead gone for a leather slip pouch. If you have tendency to drop phones however a sturdy silicone case is probably for you. Some people complain that they struggle to get them out of their jean pant :p

Ha.. finally I'm not the only one :D

I agree leather is awesome you can slide it out of your pocket easy... put it on a smooth surface and it will stay put.. love my leather protector :D

shirt - I did the jailbreak now I got now signal and all it says is no service - wtf have I done :(

Edit: restored back using the file I dl and its back to normal.....I must have missed a step somewhere.....will read up in the morning ;)

........Ok I read a little better this time and I can see my baseband is newer and that is the cause of me getting no carrier signal....now to find the work around :D

hello.

dont know if its been posted here before, but there are a lot of pages to go through, so I will just ask.

My iphone 3g 8 gig, gives me a no sim signal, even tho my simcard is inside. It is happening more frequent now, that it say there is no sim card in. anyone else experienced this? is it a fault on the phone or my simcard?

thank you for helping.

Does it do it all the time or only sometimes?

How old is your SIM and what network provider are you with? I've heard Virgin SIM cards have this problem a lot!

Hello Fxit_man :) Long time no speak.

Erm, it has done it about 4 or so times in the last couple months. Yesterday, when i wiggled the place where you insert the sim, it worked again.

I have a vodacom sim, and its about 2 years old. What could the problem be?

Thank you!

Hello there Miss :) Indeed it has been!

Hmm.. Sounds like you've either got a dirty SIM compartment or dirt on the SIM card, or it could a worn SIM card

My Vodacom SIM card has lasted me about 8 years though and I haven't changed it once! It could always be a factor though.

I'm not sure how much abuse your SIM card takes, but if it's in good condition, then I doubt it will take anything more than a quick clean of the SIM compartment with some compressed air or by just blowing into it ( being careful to not spit into it haha) or something, especially considering your phone is fairly new (unless of course water or something has entered the SIM compartment). But I doubt it :p

Cheers!

Does anyone know how to jailbreak with the 2.30 baseband? Am I being dumb?

Why don't you just downgrade your baseband? http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=3583

Just make sure you are on the 5.8 bootloader first. iClarified has instructions on that link on how to check ;)

Hey

was wondering who can help me out. i got a iphone 8gig 3g 2.1
i got in hong kong, currently has a turbosim, i have cydia and installer on it.

i got my edge and 3g working by making a custom apn, but now its not working and wondering if someone can help me? i read a blog bout 'SSH' and changing the p.list? or if anyone knows any other solutions?

one more thing, i want to upgrade to the new firmware but scared of bricking my iphone. i dont know if i can run the phone without the turbosim and dont want to try incase it bricks it somehow. will be really happy if someone could help me out with this,
thanks,

dan.

Does anyone use the iPhone on prepaid? Im regularly checking my Email through Edge (MTN) and to notice that my airtime has just decreased by about R20 after about an hour, and I do switch my edge of using SBsettings...

If your phone is from Vodacom you don't need to worry about basebands! Your iPhone is officially unlocked!

Just update it to 2.2.1 in iTunes and then use QuickPwn 2.2.5 (www.quickpwn.com) and jailbreak it! Make sure you download the right version of QuickPwn pls.

If you are using the TurboSIM this obviously means that your phone is locked, which doesn't sound right to me cos Hong Kong was selling officially unlocked handsets.

Anyhow, you DO need to worry about your baseband. As fxit_man has mentioned above, first thing you need to check what bootloader version you are running. If it it 5.9 - don't bother doing anything. If it's 5.8 you good to go ahead..

You probably are on 5.8 if you have it on 2.1 - but Google on how to check it before.

You can just go ahead and update it to 2.2.1 in iTunes
Jailbreak using QuickPwn 2.2.5 (www.quickpwn.com)
This will install Cydia on it.
Cydia automatically downloads and installs yellowsn0w (This is what allows you to use any sim card and you can then throw away your TurboSIM)
Please note, yellowsn0w ONLY works on baseband 2.28.
Search for Fuzzy 3G Baseband Downgrade in Cydia and run it.
This will downgrade your baseband fom 2.30 (from 2.1 firmware) to 2.28 so that yellowsn0w will work.

After you have done all of this you can use any simcard with your 2.2.1 iPhone with 2.28 baseband version.

Regarding the APN, you don't need to SSH and custom any plist file. Just edit the APN in your Network settings..

Hey lims, I did that and the jailbreak worked, except I had no reception on the phone at all when it restarted. All it said was 'no service'. I followed the iClarified post on page 1 and got - QuickPwn-225-2.zip. Is that wrong?

I've heard the 3G guys have this problem after a jailbreak, but they all fix it after doing the jailbreak 1 or 2 more times.

As long as you followed the links in this post, you should be fine.

Therefore, I assume QuickPwn-225-2.zip is right.

Just try do it once or twice more. And don't worry :p

Thanks for the reply. I tried to edit the APN in the settings, still didn't work but when i did SSH a custom plist file it worked. I just lost edge/3g now and then and have to reboot my phone, its never consistent.

yeah i have cydia and installer on my phone already, so it means it has been software unlocked, is that correct? ill google now how to check my baseband.so if i have the correct baseband, i can just install the " Fuzzy 3G Baseband Downgrade" from cydia and upgrade to 2.2.1? cos i have cydia and installer already?

sorry if i am sounding very n00b.

By the way - I picked up what I thought was a decent deal from Vodashop in Northgate on Saturday - 2 x silicon covers, 1 Crystal case and a screen protector for R189.

Follow my steps

Once you do a full restore in iTunes and upgrade to 2.2.1 you will lose Cydia and Installer. Your loss of 3G is because of the turbosim.

Having Cydia on your phone means the phone has been jailbroken, not 'software unlocked'.

To make your life easier, here is how you check your bootloader version:
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/f136/16285.htm

If it's 5.8, you must follow my steps above.

i went to that hackint0ish link but the source doesn't work in installer, gives an error on it. tried this other way through my terminal and didn't work either, going to try find the bbinfo app and ssh to my phone.

Some applications not working anymore???

Hi everybody, I have picked up something strange. Some of my free apps stopped working. Something like Facebook will start loading and then I'll be thrown back to the normal Iphone home page.

Has anyone seen or experienced this?

Thanks!!
