true, but, on 2.xxx you couldn't activate the phone with any other sim than a vodacom sim on the vodacom iphones
 
iPhone 3G with GM. both MMS and Tethering work fine on MTN.

this is not the same with vodacom sim though. Tether option disappears and MMS wont work at all?

actually, it is working, turn 3G off, then everything works perfectly, tether and mms....

can't for the life of me figure out why this is though? if the settings work over gprs, they should work exactly the same over 3G should they not?

ah.. will try that. the tether option is not there at all though, will this change when 3G is switched off? I assume I will need to update carrier to enable the tethering?

just called vodacom to confirm their MMS settings... they are adamant iPhone does not support MMS... can't wait for next week friday when 15,000 iPhone users call for settings! :P

That's going to be classic. It can however all be prevented if the carrier bundle is updated alongside the public release.

I finally got round to testing this. The first time I tried it claimed to be connected, but I could not access anything. I then changed the APN to internet and the toggle to turn tethering on and off disappeared :confused:

I have changed it back and rebooted and it is still gone.

How to go from UNLOCKED iPhone 2G to OS 3.0 GM (by fxit_man)

1. Backup all data in iTunes.

2. Get a Pwned 2.2.1 custom ipsw (filename = iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw , or make one yourself with Pwnage tool in Mac)

3. Restore to above pwned 2.2.1 firmware

4. Shift + Update to 3.0 GM (NOT RESTORE)

5. This will retain activation..

QuickPwn does not retain activation for some reason. But Pwnage Tool (i.e. pwned ipsw firmware does)

Glad to hear ;) perhaps you could confirm if tether or mms works on 2G? Shout if u need ipcc's?

Anyone know of a working 3.0GM jailbreak?
