there is a possible fix... anyone with a jailbroken 3G on 2.xxx please give me a shout, I need you to download your ipcc from the phone and send it to me so I can work off the original....

...tic toc tic toc...
Just let me know how via PM and I'll see what I can do.

so here's the bummer....

turns out, our meddling with ipcc files has come back to bit us in the @ss...

if you've had a custom ipcc during all the 3.0 beta testing, you can now choose if you want mms or 3G reception, not both.. fun eh?

figured out that if you do a clean restore of 3.0 to your 3G, activate the phone, enter the mms settings manually under settings, and then restart the phone, your mms works fine over 3G

now I can't restore my backup, because the carrier settings will be overwritten again... joy

MMS doesn't work all that well with an unedit ipcc file. see my last post. regardless of 3G or not.

I did have a look at that yes, the thing is, it works even less stable with and edited ipcc

the only issue is mms' from mtn don't seem to come through, and i've got a funny suspicion apple built their mms code off the original swirly mms that was submitted to the app store and rejected...

and for those who have been on this forum for a while, we all know what the issue was with swirly mms and receiving mms from mtn... lol

i'm finding this extremely amusing

let's steal code, call it our own, and hide the evidence, oops, we missed that bug... coincidence? i think not... again.... BAD APPLE!

on the other hand, I could be wrong, and mtn's network could just be so stuffed that it's not sending mms'

nothing to worry about, did one yesterday, works like a charm

you just won't have tethering

do the restore, then restore from backup, then go to settings -> general ->network -> cellular data network

cellular data apn: internet
mms: (as per my post on the previous page)

Okay I installed it and it works perfectly, no issues at all.

So let me get this straight.

1. I install/restore to OS 3.0 GM. *Done*
2. I restore from backup. ( My last backup would be of the GM after syncing )
3. Edit the connection settings.

Will I then have tethering ? I don't care about the MMS really.

im not really sure... on Vodacom No, on MTN maybe? (rolands says all works out the box. I'm on vodacom and have both tethering and MMS, but I did update my ipcc during the beta process)

Hopefully the final OS3 will have tethering - else I will have to jailbreak again to use iModem on Windows at work.

I'm on MTN, under Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network I have fields for APN/Username/Password and MMS settings fields which are blank.

By completing these would it possibly work ?

Roland, there's an application in MAC OS (im not sure if it works in Windows) - that allows you to edit your backups.

Or just wait for the jailbreak and you can SSH to the ipcc and fix it..

So there I was running a google on OS3.0 and come up with the following file on a torrent to download.

Iphone1.2_3.0_7A341_Restore.IPSW 230.05MB :D

I have downloaded it and just want to know from those in the know.

1. Is this the final OS3.0 or a Beta
2. If it is can I go ahead and run the restore and assume that my beloved Iphone will be all good after said restore?

If you have the link for the final version of OS3.0 PM me the link or if you are in Western Cape Southern Suburbs I can come around over the weekend with my 16GB Verbatim Flash and grab it of your PC (I have standard PC not a MAC)

For what it's worth - I wouldn't touch any software coming off of a torrent.

Surely there must be a direct download from Apple's site.
As for it being the final release or not - just check the Apple site ;)

Yeah same. I'll be waiting as well... DevTeam should release the jailbreak very soon after the 17th. Only thing that's delaying everything is iTunes 8.2!

2 weeks ago when I had the pre release of 8.2, QuickPwn couldn't detect my iPhone, therefore I couldn't jailbreak it. I had to remove 8.2 and go back to 8.1.

I'm not sure what the IPCC files are and how to set them up. Never Jailbroken or intend to either as I've mentioned.

Anyway I got MTN MMS working, it didn't seem to work yesterday, it wouldn't keep the settings either, but it is now after playing with .mobileconfig's.

I've done some looking around online and apparently for tethering you need a .mobileconfig file. Check out this site ( in German and for European Networks only ) http://www.benm.at/2009/06/13/helpbenmat/

I installed the Vodafone.de .mobileconfig and in my iPhone settings a 'Setup Tethering' option appeared. Obviously they didn't work and thew me an error about contacting my carrier to activate tethering.

Did some looking around for an app that creates .mobileconfigs

You can download the iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple at http://support.apple.com/downloads/iPhone_Configuration_Utility_1_1_for_Mac_OS_X

Have tried creating profiles with the APN set to myMTN / internet / www but not luck on the tethering option.

Any tips ?
