Umm i dunno if you are spammin or trying to help us, but none of those IPCC's are going to help us? We are on South African networks (this being a SA forum), so those IPCC's are n/a to us..

Not true..

You can, with a simple command line command enable tethering in the latest releases.

For Windows:
"%ProgramFiles%\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Press the Windows Key + R, or start, run, type cmd, hit enter, and copy, paste the above command into the black window. Then press enter.

For Mac:

Tried this and it's not working for me.

Sorry, forgot the cmd bit. Not sure if that will make a difference.

Apparently you must shift-update not shift-restore to apply the ipcc on Windows. Lemme know as a matter of interest, as I have no need for the ipcc's. :p

Seems to work for me though. Shift-update and it allows me to browse for a .ipcc file :D

Thx

Ah ok, I misinterpreted your post then. I did not realise this was the exact equivalent of the hack for mac. I was expecting iTunes to sync back something to enable the tethering setting. Will give it another go.

Noob question but when I update via itunes is the firmware file stored somewhere on my PC or do I have to download the 250mb everytime I want to restore my iphone?

Also if the file is stored somewhere would I be able to upgrade multiple iphones with the same firmware?

Got a friend with a iphone with a databundle and downloading the file will completely wipe out his entire cap... I am hoping its possible to download the file and upgrade both our phones.

2 days to go :D I have resisted temptation! by the way I will have 2 x iPhones available for sale at the end of the month, both new in the box (got 2 upgrades due, so thought I would give back to the community and sell them for a steal :) )

you maybe want to wait till next month for 3G S? then I'll definitely take one

it is stored. Can't remember exact location but it's somewhere here

(posting from iPhone ATM so can't give exact location)

xp: c:/documents and settings/xx/appdata(hidden folder)/local/apple/

vista: c:/users/xx/appdata(hidden folder)/local/apple computer

somewhere there anyways. Search for the .ipsw file and you'll find it!

Yes you can use it for multiple iPhones ( as long as they are both the same model for the iPhone you downloaded it for e.g both 3G)
