hiehie

I can read I guess i used the wrong one rar pack.

you used the right one, the vodacom one won't take effect on an mtn sim, but it's a known bug of that ipcc on mtn

like i've said, you should not have installed ipcc

restore your phone to 3.0 again

then DO NOT RESTORE BACKUP ON THE PHONE

then on the phone: settings -> general -> network -> cellular data network
put in the settings on the first page of this thread, but leave the user and password for mtn apn blank, not mtnmms
then restart phone
then test mms
then restore from backup
should be fine then

STOP UPLOADING IPCC'S TO YOUR 3G PHONES, THEY DO MORE DAMAGE THAN GOOD, WAIT FOR VODACOM TO RELEASE A MOBILECONFIG UPDATE VIA EMAIL

Okay so, my mms works, but now while my Wi-Fi is connected! Well... that doesn't help me since my Wi-Fi is always on! So now what....???????//

Nope, I tethered, mms still works, switched tethering off, mms still works

mms bombing my poor gf :) everything works fine with the IPCC (vodacom image logo) on my iphone 3g with todays release of 3.0 - i just needed to reboot the phone.

[edit] please dont try until confirmed - this fix isnt working for everyone

well that's good to hear :) don't feel so bad now.. :D

It's better than none of those working though :p

HOW TO ACTIVATE MMS ON THE IPHONE......TRIED TESTED AND WORKING.... DONT FORGET TO REBOOT AFTER YOU INPUT THE SETTINGS

Goto Settings....General....Network...Cellular Data Network...

Under Cellular Data Network go right to the bottom and hit the Reset Settings Button this should bring up "Cellular Data" "Visual Voicemail" & "MMS" if not there already

Under MMS put the following info in and leave all other fields blank

Vodacom
APN: mms.vodacom.net
MMSC: mmsc.vodacom4me.co.za
Proxy: 196.006.128.013:8080

Virgin
MMSC: mms.virginmobile.co.za
Proxy: 196.31.116.242:8080
APN: vmms

Cell C
MMSC: mms.cmobile.co.za/
Proxy: 196.031.116.250:8080 (or 9201)
APN: mms

MTN
MMSC: http://mms.mtn.co.za/mms/wapenc
Proxy: 196.11.240.241:8080
APN: myMTN
Username: mtnmms
Password: mtnmms (not required apparently)

I have only tried this on vodacom so dunno if the other networks work...

LASTLY YOU NEED TO REBOOT THE PHONE FOR THE SETTINGS TO TAKE EFFECT

Cell C settings work fine! Thanks dude. Just managed to send a MMS :)

iPhone OS3.0, mms, and tethering with ipcc's

Hi Guys, after a lot of confusion tonight, I thought I'd post this, first of all, there's two types of advice going around:

the guys saying that the ipcc's work for them either have 2G iphones, or no 3G reception where their phones are working, 2G phones, you don't have to worry, someone please confirm if mms and tether are available on these?

IPCC'S ARE A BAD IDEA FOR THE 3G IPHONE, as we've not figured out the correct config for the 3G phone since beta5 as yet

if you have applied the ipcc to your phone, I'm afraid you're going to loose all your backed up sms', no way around this

for mtn, vodacom, virgin or cell c:
restore your phone to 3.0 firmware by using the restore button on itunes, (shift+restore if you downloaded manually, just restore if itunes downloaded the files)
after the restore, DO NOT RESTORE YOUR PHONE TO AN EARLIER BACKUP, SET IT UP AS A NEW IPHONE
before you sync, disconnect the phone
go to settings -> general -> network -> cellular data network
enter the mms settings on the first page of this forum thread (mtn, leave user and password blank)
now turn your phone off, and back on
now test sending an mms
the first one takes long before it works, keep trying, mtn, cell c and virgin guys might have to have mms activated on their account, vodacom activates it automatically
once the mms sends, make sure you receive it as well
then reconnect your phone, remember, SET UP AS NEW IPHONE, and reconfigure your sync settings

sorry about making you guys loose your store sms', but, i did warn repeatedly not to use the ipcc's

fxit and all the others, please edit your posts with advise and/or links to ipcc's and remove them, you're going to cause a lot of people a lot of headaches

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TETHERING
vodacom will (eventually) release a .mobileconfig file via email or mms that can enable tethering on your phone

I'll continue to try figure out how to do this, but all my attempts thus far just makes the phone's data connection horribly unstable, so I really would suggest waiting for vodacom on this

i know there's a lot of guys saying tethering works with the ipcc's, this is only true on gprs/edge network, as soon as your phone goes to 3G, things go freaky, freaky bad, not freaky good, so please IPHONE 3G STAY AWAY FROM IPCCS

Regards

Roland

I would suggest that you guys wait for the jailbreak, and SSH into the phone and grab the sms.db and any other files you need..

Then only restore..

Once restored you can re-SSH the files back in..

Thanks for the info Roland - strange, I have an iPhone 3G, my 3G is enabled and I have 3G reception on and off and it all works...?

[edit] ill test it tomorrow when I am at the office, much better 3G reception there.

Thanks for the info Roland - strange,...?

which ipcc did you use? the one from page 1?

i tried using this and the effects weren't great

please edit that post and remove your result though, i don't want guys using the ipcc and then getting stuck with non working phones, at least until we're sure

i added a note to all my posts to say dont try until confirmed.

im using the ipcc from the first post in this thread, the vodacom one with the graphic logo.

and you can actually tether while on 3G? and you're sure you're using the tethering connection and not some other broadband connection?

also, do mms' send easily, or do you have to retry a few times?

Activation server problems - work around

For those who have downloaded the update but cannot install due to a crashed activation server:

1. Plug in your iphone and wait for itunes to open.
2. Open Network Connections thru control panel, or however you enable and disable your internet connection…
3. Click the “Update” button in itunes.
4. BEFORE it gets to the point where it attempts to contact the activation server, DISABLE YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION!
5. The update goes thru. You can enable your internet once the software begins to install on your phone.

Quick question to all the peoples in the "know"

I remember awhile back that there is a file you can delete which restores the order of your apps on your springboard.

I still have not done the upgrade to OS3, but after I've done it, and I've restored my backups, I want, to remove the file so that the icons appear in their original positions (message first and so on and so on), think the file's name is something like com.apple.springboard

Is this correct and where does one find said file?

EDIT : And another stupid question, for those that have played around with OS3, I don't want to touch the ipcc files with a 10ft pole (will just stick to good ol pdanet for now), my question is, can I still change my carrier logo in my status bar the old fashioned way (by using my own custom MTN_ZA.bundle) as was done on ver 2.2.1?

But those files are all graphics no?

Just tested at the office - with full 3g reception, tethering does not work with the ipcc files as stated in this thread. MMS works though.

Theron & morkams - what you guys doing today? think you must get stuck in and see if you can fix this problem....:D because I think we all agree to wait for vodacom could take months!!!

So bottom line: the wait; the release; the download; the install; the crashed acivation server; the blind tinkering... And all you get essentially is MMS?? (which is useless in the presence of email IMO.)

Pretty poor show from Vodacom on the tethering front... The guys in this thread who have helped out any and everyone, answering the same noob questions ad nauseum: you dudes deserve a medal or at least sincere thanks and a round of applause! *claps*

As for me: I will hang on to my perfectly working; jailbroken; winterboarded iPhone until such time as Vodacom enables the one truly useful feature of OS3: tethering.

I am so fed up with Apple and Vodacom.
Someone should have had this ready for the release.
For bloody f cks sake
So you download a new OS and you still have to bloody tweak the crap out of it?
Sorry but thats why I prefer my SE X1
