does anyone here know whether redsn0w makes use of bootnueter to unlock the 2G or does it come with it's own unlock?

IS Windows out???? I have the 3.0 original ipsw, so i might as well quickly do it myself
 
Custom IPSW file

Please note:
the file was created with Pwnage Tool for OSX - it contains no additional apps apart from Cydia and Icy.

Activate the phone is disabled (use only for unlocked VC 3g iPhones)
Enable baseband update has been ticked - allows to modify baseband in need.
Root partion size is 695 MB (suggested by iClarified)
Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility if you brick your phone..... but can guarantee this was built with Pawnage Tool for OS X and is running fine on my iPhone.

busy with the torrent. Downloaded the exe first, but it seems not to work...
will wait patiently for torrent (thought it would seed faster)

Well this is now a fine time to mention this!!! I used redsn0w and it worked fine, am busy installing utilities through cydia
 
The 0.7.1 release has the gui now. Dunno whats going on with my 2GB though, decided to do that 1st before I "break" my main phone; app says it is complete but the phone is still "Downloading Jailbreak Data" long after. Hmmmm ..... maybe I messed something up - don't think I did though.
 
Ok, so I've downloaded the official OS 3.0 software from Apple, iTunes 8.2 and Redsnow 0.7.1.

The way I understand it, is I update to 3.0 through iTunes and then run Redsnow to jailbreak? Is this correct?

How do I save all my settings, mail, sms's etc? Or won't I lose anything if I update?
 
EchoZA yes it is the correct file:
2G iPhone: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
3G iPhone: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

NO!
You should use redsnow to prep the IPSW then use itunes to install the modded file to your phone.
I just started, but read something about putting phone in DFU mode before uploading. Busy investigating

Then I'm confused... this is what it says on the Dev-Team website:

To use redsn0w simply upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too!)

Seems it is my mistake...
 
hmm.. i'll wait for ultrasnow before I start messing with my iPhone.

for those getting error codes attempting DFU on mac...
Restore iPhone using Original firmware file (OS 3.0)
Close iTunes.
Disconnect iPhone
Delete any files in ~/library/itunes/Device Support/, just the files inside, not the files.
Open PwnageTool and Create a custom firmware.
Do not plug your iPhone in while Pwnage tool is creating the custom firmware.
Do not open iTunes until your custom firmware is ready
Boot iPhone in DFU mode
Open iTunes
Option-Click on restore button
wait for iTunes to complete the restore process!

The craze got to me (and i think because i read so much about "Only restore with a pwned 2.2.1, then UPGRADE to 3.0, so i got confused...)

Seems it is a normal upgrade in itunes, then use redsnow to unlock
fxit, please confirm this (I know you also have 2g)
