Same here... im considering a clean restore (again) but it takes so damn long installing all those jailbroken apps. And then i might just install the culprit again. :D

Don't think a jaibroken app is the cause, on the apple forum people are complaining with clean legitimate restores, also my iPhone gets warm, never got this warm before.. so OS3 is still in need of some work.

Is it possible to share PC internect connection with the iphone?

Does your PC have Wi-Fi? If so, you should be able to set up a peer to peer network which will allow you to share your PC's internet over Wi-Fi. Google it to see exactly how :)

Thanks, i found help here http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5105

Except that the left out the part for proxy server...but it works now!:)

Has anyone here been able to download Mewseek/Pro from Cydia?

Keeps on telling me host unreachable, I am using OS 3:mad:

I havent tried that as I don't need the app, but you could download the .deb from here manually and scp it to your iPhone and then dkpg -i file.deb if you are comfortable doing those kinda things and have your phone setup in such a way.

Thanks MikeCTZA:)

scp it to your iPhone and then dkpg -i file.deb:eek: Holy cr*p what is that...is there like a manual on how to do this?

MikeCTZA if you don't use Mewseek to P2P music then which app do you use?

LilJohn, probably not worth going the route I suggested if those things are all foreign to you. I don't do P2P for any music.

upgraded to itunes 8.02, software 3.0 - big issues

hi guys

i have an iphone from a vodacom package, its not jailbroken or anything. it was perfect and hassle free until friday, when i upgraded itunes to 8.02 and wanted the version 3 software.

first, it tried to do a backup and failed halfway (After 3 hours!!). trawled some forums, guys said to do a restore to factory settings, then it will install version 3 and you can backup your old stuff.

i did that, got version 3 on (hooray for swinging your sms!).

now, i can't put my apps back on because it says 'no disk space' - which is impossible, because all the music and apps are off. there is nothing on the phone using up space.

backups take 5 hours - and it wants to backup before installing/uninstalling any app...

please guys, how do i get back to normality here?

ps: i don't want to jailbreak hacksor or rodger the phone, it must just work the way it used to before this stupid upgrade... but i'll do anything to get it working, and i really want my music back on the phone!

i thank you in advance for any help offered.

Boodah: You do mean iTunes 8.2 right (as that is needed)? Not 8.0.2. My current Windows version is 8.2.0.23. When you connect the iPhone does iTunes detect it and show the usage colours at the bottom of the Summary screen when you click on the device? I am guessing it does and it is all free - right? I would be weary if your backups are failing though, you really want those to work.
My guess is 1st double check the iTunes version, and maybe do a Restore (to 3.0) of the Firmware again and then see how things look.

And some people feel that they are entitled to assistance regardless of the fact that they have zero consideration for those that that they demand it from.

You have been active in this thread for a long time, you ought to know better - in fact you most likely do and are just lazy; inconsiderate and have a deep seated sense of entitlement.

Unfortunately I am pissing in my own eye by posting this as its just further polluting the thread... so that will be all on this subject from me, feel free to retort in PM (because lord knows that you have some or other inane response welling up inside that little melon right now.)

Wow great post, one wonders if you thought of that all on your own.
Entitled to what? Asking a question and getting an answer? This is what the forum is here for if you dont like it go start your own gestapo forum somewhere else.

Forum Nazi's are not needed or wanted here thanks.

MMS on 2G Jailbroken iPhone with OS 3.0

If you have a 2G iPhone and have jailbroken it with OS 3.0 and are interested in having MMS working do the following. Firstly follow this link from your PC browser "http://swirlyspace.com/mmssettings/" and write down the relevant APS setting for your network. Once you have these then follow this link "http://modmyi.com/forums/file-mods/641191-mms-iphone-2g-os-3-0-a-25.html" using your iPhones browser and follow the instructions. I have it working with Cell-C on my phone. Happy MMSing......

hey mike... spot on; itunes 8.2, and it claims 0 free space, while the phone claims 14gb space. i tried installing an app i use (faces light - brilliant phonebook app)... it took 4.5 hours to conclude the 'backing up iphone' part, and then half way through it said 'failed to install app cos there's no space on phone'...

i might have to take a day off work to restore the the phone again:sick::sick:

Take your phone back to vodacom asap and demand an exchange, how long have you had it? Basically your /var partition on the disk is buggered, this is a hardware issue, I doubt if a restore will fix it

True, could be. But @Boodah, I know it's a silly question but have u tried a full/clean restore (without trying to restore from a backup)?

hey r-blue... thats how i got the version 3 software on there. i could do a reset on the phone, instead of itunes, there is an options in the settings to restore it.

what i am worried about is the contacts... i don't want to lose those and i'm not syncing to a machine that has outlook (my desktop just has itunes and openoffice (games, music) - its not for work...

dont think its hardware, it was perfect till friday when i upgraded that crap itunes program.

Don't think that the restore option on the phone is as powerful as the restore option in iTunes.
I would really suggest doing a full restore from within iTunes.
Regarding your contacts, well, can't you back them up (sync) them to the Windows Address Book for now? (I think you can - I use a Mac). Keep in mind - it is good practice to sync your contacts to your computer or to an online service - what happens if your phone breaks or gets stolen?? Need that other copy of contacts so you don't loose them all. Come to think of it - how about syncing them to a Gmail account - think you can do that from within iTunes?

yeah, i'm doing a full restore from itunes now, basically a format - reinstall.
after doing the restore, backup was 10 seconds... then itunes started restoring - and here we are several hours and many starcraf games later!

Well you've only got one option then, create a google account, sync your contacts with it, restore your phone, set it up as a new phone, sync your contacts back from gmail, google for anything you don't know how to do, the info is available everywhere, also quite a lot of tutorials/how to's on www.iclarified.com

I agree on that, but I think something else went wrong. Could have been the ipcc I uploaded (there was LOADS of warning against that), and the PUSH apps drained me like 40-50 % in 3 hours, not even receiving push notifications. Did a restore over weekend, battery life much better (and i even restored my backup from itunes)

from a recent apple patent filing:

...could this be what we were waiting for...??

"..The second outlines a messaging application that could determine whether a message was successfully sent from the device to one or more recipients, and allow the user to re-send the message without the need to retype it should the initial delivery attempt fail.."
