just read bout the tethering block from AT&T.
just got my tethering working last night on vodacom, eats up airtime though.
wont be a block here, will there?

Thanks man - I could restore it but thats not going to help as all the info would be gone.
Imagine losing your 16 gig 3G? :(:(

Yeah but you could try QuickPwn it (info will remain) if he's not jailbroken.

Then you will have access to the system partition.

Try from 2.0 upwards in QuickPwn.

I would guess and say he's on 2.2.1

Try plug it into iTunes? Not sure if it would pick it up without unlocking but worth a try.

Or try downloading DiskAid, hope its jailbroken, copy over the Address Book .db file to your PC (found at /private/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook/) and open it in Notepad. You should be able to make out some numbers. Call one of them, ask who's phone it is that came up on their caller ID.. etc..

Shouldn't be too hard.. Otherwise just jailbreak it if it's not (would have to know what version its running though as well I guess)

Cant use Diskaid, it says the unit is locked. Needs to be unlocked.

Quickpawn says: This version of Quickpawn can only jailbreak devices with versions > = 2.0
Trying Redsnow seems to be working, how can it be on OS3?

Now it is just saying "downloading jailbreak data" with the pic of a hard drive and the circle going but nothing happening

Damn it - now in DFU mode :(

is he on Vodacom? Im sure other service providers also have it..

hoping he has some numbers on his sim and no SIM PIN, put the SIM in your phone. then import contacts from SIM / view SIM contacts (if not an iPhone)

kick it out of DFU mode by holding home and power button for like 20 seconds

then try something like t-pot for total commander to view files

http://code.google.com/p/t-pot/

good luck

I simply LOVE the new copy, cut & paste functionality that comes with OS3.0, but something strange has been happening to me the past few days (better said just 2 min ago). I can use this function most anywhere except on the WIKIPEDIA website  . Normaly I would not have picked up on this cause I do not frequent this website.

Just wanted to know AM I THE ONLY ONE? Take note I can do the copy/paste
EVERYWHERE ELSE :D

Well I find it more difficult to copy from Wikipedia, but I can. Try to hold your finger on a word for a few seconds, then it will highlight that word. Then you can just expand your selection by dragging the corners. Well, that worked for me. :)

Had to restore the phone now all the info is gone. :(:(
How can I find out who the phone belongs to?

Is it Vodacom or MTN? Try taking it to Vodacom Walk-in (if it's Vodacom) so they can check the SIM number on the system to see what the cell number is. Hopefully it's on a contract so that they can then link the cell number to a name :D

I think this is probably covered either here or somewhere else, just struggling to come up with a sensible search phrase...

I have downloaded some apps ...erm - 'outside' of iTunes - some of them have not only the .ipa but other folders and album art etc.

What is the method for adding these particular apps to iTunes?

Well I'm on a Mac and this is how I do it:

Select the 2 files, it should be artwork and the payload and compress it.
It should pop out a .zip file.
Rename that .zip file to .ipa
Voila ;)

Update: Go to the settings of your Download application and disable a function similar to 'Auto extract/open file once downloaded', so it just downloads the .ipa file.

according to SA users of the recently released iphone OS 3.1 beta 2 firmware, mms and tethering are now supported by default on vodacom

looks like someone FINALLY got their act together.... now just wake up and look into my account query that's been running for the last 5 months @$$e$

gotta love VC

It's about time!!!

By default, you mean the .ipcc? Do you have your hands on that ipcc? Would like to compare it to the one you provided me with...

Finally got my battery life back :D

I decided to use my windows PC instead of Mac, got redsn0w v0.8, unchecked cydia, restored without a backup, turned off push and location services and my battery has only dropped by 10% since yesterday.
:D

getting there, it's the ipcc that's built in to the 3.1 beta 2 firmware, and there's no jailbreak yet, so can't get to it, would like to do some comparing myself for that matter :)

but we working on it, there's apparently a way to get to it without jailbreak, will keep you in the loop, i'm on 3.0, would also like to just get that ipcc and upload to my phone

I see there is an iTunes update out, is it worth downloading? What I mean by worth, it won't bork my phone or anything :)
