And AirVideo - a upnp server/client that streams any video format (mkv and avi divx tested here) to the iphone in real time, available on appstore, works really well.

I tried this a while ago, and the app had to convert the movie files before playing it. So it's not really a streaming app. Unless it changed recently?

off the jailbreak topic, i've just made 2 nice discoveries (still on 3.01 - 3GS)

Kirikae - available from cydia - a task manager, had been looking for one for ages, works with backgrounder and lets you switch between apps from a pop-up interface.

Awesome, thanks :)

Has anybody with a 3G tried to jailbreak 3.1 using a custom ipsw from the pwnage tool in Windows?

I am going to try, but am just waiting for my 3.0 fw to finish downloading incase I run into issues I can restore 3.0

Man... if only Apple could stop being so strict we could have Opera Browser on the iphone with that cool scroll effect.

Safari Browser to me lacks a lot, I can't enjoy surfing with it, we need competition in this department.

iPhone 3G on 3.1 and Vodacom

Anyone else experiencing issues with staying connected to Vodacom on an iPhone 3G running the 3.1 firmware?

My phone indicates a signal, but I cannot make or receive calls or SMS's or use the data connection. Sometimes it helps flipping flight mode on and off. Others I have to power down the phone and switch on again before service is restored.

I also often notice the data connection indicator disappearing and reappearing involuntarily.

Any similar experiences out there? Any suggestions?

What area are you in? Im in Stellenbosch Cape town and having similar issues, but im on 3.0 FW. Think it may be VC and not the phone...

Who can help with the location of where SwirlyMMS stores the pictures? I have some pics I want to back up that I received via mms before I update the FW, but cant seem to find them.

EDIT: I see in swirly you can choose to save the pics on your phone!

Does it play mkv files loaded on the phone??

no, it transcodes and streams, there is nothing that will play mkv natively afaik.

The streamed results are much better than using mPlayer or vlc4iphone.

And yes, the most recent version does stream, you do not have to convert first.

Vodacom MMS on iPhone

Hi guys,as Vodacom now officially supports mms on the iPhone, the proble is, it still doesn't work, essentially, it's the phone, but, they can fix it with network configuration, only, they refuse to admit there's something wrong

so

guys, please log a call withc customer care, (111), and state clearly that you can send mms, and that you can receive mms from Vodacom numbers, the problem is you cannot receive from mtn, cell c or virgin mobile, also mention mms is extremely temremental on 3G

they will ask you to check your settings etc, be patient and do this to convince them there's nothing wrong on your side, they will log a request with the Vodacom data center, whom you will receive a call from the next day, keep stressing you don't think it's the phone

let's see if we can get vc to wake up

TBH I don't enjoy surfing with any browser on any phone - its too small!! much rather prefer my macbook

What's so cool about the Opera scroll effect? i can't find it anywhere on Google??

Roland I just called in now.. They logged my request.

You guys must check out WhatsApp [iTunes link]
They just added a "chat" facility between iPhones. Is now the BB Messenger for the iPhone :D:D:D They are working on adding the chat facility to their BB version too.

It doesn't mention how long you can stay connected for. BeeJiveIM stays connected for 7 days and can connect to multiple IM services, but then again BeeJive is $9.99! Since it's free i'll give it a shot with my friends. I wonder how it works... It says no password or registration is required - i'm guessing it uses some form of device identification...

This is quite a smart idea for an app - especially if they can get BB and iPhone uses to communicate between each other.
