So I sent the seller a message.. If he will do a full refund I will take it! otherwise will see how much Vodacom will charge to swap it out/fix. And do you guys think insurance would cover something like this?

Vodacom probally won't touch it. They also only do swop outs - they don't fix and only on warrenty phones. Insurance probally won't cover it unless its specified and you "accidentally" drop it in the loo  (it happens - check the threads :erm:)

did i not tell you about this???

yes you did.. could find the post.. but thanks anyway :)

this means that you cannot restore back to 3.0 or 3.0.1 by any method, stop looking for guides on how to, the answer will always be "no you can't", you're just going to end up upgrading your baseband by accident and scr@wing yourself over

you missed the window to get the shsh blobs on file with cydia before 3.1 was released

as for b!tching about people saying "i told you so", well, we did, and now you're stuck with the problem, as warned

thanks for the input... I have spoken to the seller... he said he is prepared to do a full refund.. gonna try to get him to do a swap out instead!

Well... do you have a link to the file you do not have? ;)

Nope not at all no link nothing, I genuinely meant I don't have it, I just got the size off iTunes, I know what you're getting at thought - hee hee. I thought it was a bit of a weird question to ask when you could have got the size from there too.

Sygic still beats it by far...

Sorry, can't agree with that, have used sygic for some time now, and it was great, some issues like phone calls cut off your gps and there is no integration with the iphone apps like contacts. But overall it was a great gps app.

But have to say, navigon is a lot more impressive, and it integrates 100% with your iphone (it is a bit memory intensive when it starts up), the maps are beautiful and 3d POI looks awesome. And between you an me, I prefer my lady of the streets, to have a female voice, not male as in sygic.

But the one thing that trumps all the others in the favour of navigon, its legal, and thus the maps will be kept up to date, can't say the same for sygic

Cool. Thanx for the comparison. I bought Navigon a few days ago and love it. Always wanted TomTom but am not hearing many good things about it (besides that it's very configurable and integrates pretty well with the iPhone). It seems (in SA at least) that Navigon has better maps and is "prettier" :D:D

The one thing that put me off tomtom (ok it was the hacked version), was that it was not accurate, was out with about 300m, so I forked out the cash and got the navigon, and that is spot on (and the maps are prettier especially the 3d POI's)

k so either my iPhone no longer has the prob or my battery meter is broke!
cause my iPhone has been on for 1:30 hours and its still on 100% with 3 mins of cydia usage!

UPDATE: Been on for 2:40 hours with no activity and on 99% battery!! Maybe my battery problems are over :)

Will leave it on overnight with no charge and see what its like :)

UPDATE2: Been on for 3:30 hours with no activity and on 99% battery!!

It seems to me the Navicon is the why to go. Where can I get it or where can I buy it?

UPDATE 3: I left my phone next to my bed the whole night and it only dropped 2% which is fine by me.. gonna call my battery fixed!

I am still perplexed as to what caused your phones battery to drain that fast.

*On my iPhone 3G, Motion-X GPS and News24 are the biggest culprits for a short battery life.

k so my iPhone is fixed for sure! it reads as follows:
Been on for 55m:
-Battery 100%
-Usage time 0m
-Standby time 55m

Before(with prob) the usage was same as standby! So it must be fixed now :)
I did remove a whole bunch of things I didnt know about in cydia so maybe one of them fixed it :)

I just bought Navigon for my phone. Its worth the money.

500 is not bad. Garmin XT costs about R3500 for smart phones so its cheap actually.

I need some advice:
I want to buy a mount for the Iphone. I obviously need something with a charger so I can use the gps.
I found this but I want to be able to put the phone landscape. I don't want to buy the thing only to find it doesn't hold it sideways. Ther is also this one but its a bit steep for me. There is also this but I wil have to use my own charger (not a problem, I just had some bad experiences with wantitall)

Can anyone recommend a nice mount for the iphone?

Also is it possible for me to import my waypoints from Mapsource to my navigon? It does not seem to have a Mapsource style program to go with it. and adding all my waypoints one by one is going to be a pain.

Hi ,

Yes, I am jailbroken on 3.0.1 and do have my 3.0 SHSH on file. I managed to sort out my issue with the camera (which I broke btw). I just did a backup restore from itunes (dated 10/09/2009) which sorted me out, hehe.

In the meantime if read a lot and it seems that my device should have been in DFU mode for the downgrade to work. But I didnt try it because my problem was resolved, :)

What issue do you have with the camera?

It says they are stored for 3.1 NOT 3.0/3.0.1 :(

I just concluded some more tests which help a lot(think)

Results:

I know that the Airoplane one was half the time but it only dropped 1% which converts into 2% if you take over the same time frame!
I know that airplane mode uses less battery but it cant be 18% less!!

What could be using my sim card while its sleeping?

EDIT:

On my JB 2G, i only experience HEAVY battery drain (quite similar to yours) when i have any form of PUSH enabled (even mail push)

R500 for proper GPS is worth it, maps are not cheap.

Maybe you right and the real reason why I'm hesitant to pay the R 500 bucks is a Samsung I8910 that I bought on Ebay and I first want to have a look, maybe it become my everyday phone then I'll rather buy the Navicon maps for the Samsung

What issue do you have with the camera?

I screwed up my camera, lol... I installed a lot of apps, including cycorder which I couldnt get to work. I tried a lot of things to get cycorder to work, including moving folders around, setting permissions etc.. and when I gave up on cycorder I noticed that when I take a picture, it doesnt get saved to Camera Roll, and also when I start the video camera, it will totally freeze up... grin

But all was sorted out after doing a backup restore :)
