Can someone please clear this up for me... Apple claims that the iPhone has a 1 YEAR GLOBAL WARRANTY... But it seems that if you buy an iPhone from USA, and bring it to South Africa, and you have issues with the phone, then you need to return the phone to USA to have it sorted out... Am I correct? So whats this BS about Global warranty then... argggg

“Ok I figured it out. If your stuck at running… and recovery mode do this.

1. close blackra1n
2. open blackra1n
3. hold home and power buttons down.

phone reboots but keep holding down until geohot’s pic shows up. similar to redsn0w.”

Worked for me.

Regards,
Steven

Worked FINALLY FOR ME shew I thought I was going crazy but I am up and going thanks to everyone :D

Wish we all had unlimited bandwidth like the average man in the States ;)
Downloaded my new firmware but haven't installed yet - need to find some time so I can also set all my apps up right again.
Won't be jailbreaking either, especially now that Skype will work over 3G too (soon at least).

You probably pay and arm and leg for it. And then in the States they get unlimited data on their iPhones too - soooooo unfair!!! :(

they have to pay a fixed rate as far as i have seen. and you get that here on the BB...kinda the same

will visit the istore and do it there, no need to download if you are sticking to default iphone 3.1.2

I honestly can't believe that I spent over 4 hours yesterday restoring, trying to downgrade, rebooting etc and all I needed to do was to change USB ports.
Worked 1st time.

Well TIA (This Is Africa) :p mate & I don't pay a arm and a leg my boss does :D. so when ever a new update comes along I get the short fall in my salary in bandwidth :D I find that is a deal I can live with.

Yes in the USA everything is better re iPhone. But I will not swop it for my beloved Cape Town.

Ditto I started yesterday around 4pm and only get it up and running today after 2pm. honestly I enjoy these hectic update period. I learn so much about my phone and I got crapped on my Roland :D No better way to spend a Sunday than pressing buttons on my iPhone seeing it only has 2 buttons :p

That's PC's for you...

I got a quick question, the answer to which I believe has already been covered but not to my understanding....

I have a 3GS factory unlocked running 3.1 which was jailbroken yesterday using Blackra1n.

I would like to upgrade to 3.1.2 but maintain the jailbreak.

What are the implications if any?

You can upgrade to 3.1.2 - you'll just need to re-run blackra1n in order to get your JB back. Once you perform any restore, you lose your JB and all jailbroken app downloaded with Cydia..

True, but the fixed rate aint that expensive for them. Yes, we do have it here on BB but I definitely did not get close to using 750mb a month on my BB :p

3G jailbreak troubleshooting

ok, i've tried all usb ports, no luck, anyone try this method? anyone else also struggling with no jailbreak no matter which usb port?

Ok, JOshs' method:
**disable all anti virus, firewall and even anti spam** (Not sure if that helped, but part of my solution so maybe a key?)
1. Restore your iphone 3g to 3.1.2
2. Close Itunes
3. Turn off your iphone
4. Kill ituneshelper.exe
5. Download blackrain, move it to the root of your C drive.
6. Run blackrain.exe as administrator, nothing else needed !!** I did not put program in winxp compatibility mode**!!
7. Click make it rain
8. Hold down home and power button, as soon as you see the apple logo release the power button, continue to hold the home button.
9. Release home button when you see geohot?s picture.
10. Let it do its thing.

**11.** I had to turn the phone off complete ly by unplugging USB cord. (Note Blackra1n is still running in the background)
**12.** Plug it back in and repeat step 8.
Geohots face came up and it rebooted!!
BoooYaaaa!!! Finally no more itunes restore.

I think Geohot's Blackra1n needs a little fine tuning, but with trial and error I have got it to work on 3.1 and then 3.1.2 on 2 phones and going to try 2 x iPod Touch'es :D 2mrw.

Before you get excited see this off Geo's twitter:

with regards to new ipt2/3 8g support, if your model starts with MB it'll work, if your model starts with MC it won't, and restore required

May help...
