The leaving mweb for opengold thread :D

Where it is MWeb themselves who have terminated the agreement then a notice period no longer applies. They cannot (legally) both bill you and refuse to provide a service beyond the point of termination.

Sounds about right but this is good ol Sa anything is possible :D.

As far as i know they can bill you, the agreement was broken. was the financial agreement broken with their cancellation?

Yay got the username and password :D, thank you openweb i sure hope this account is good.

Obviously, but that does not say that the automated billing systems has been updated as we've quite enough seen it happen with webafrica. However with termination I think we could pass. Still I would not be too surprised if it happens comes July...

So can someone give a brief summary why there may be masses leaving mweb?

*mweb is good. don't leave them :shifty:*

many people were having trouble with them, personally mweb is working fine for me now.

My reason for leaving is i have not had a 4 meg line for last 2 months, i cannot run news stuff and surf, the best i can is about 200 but then i cannot surf. All i want is a 4 meg line again.

I've been having no issues with Mweb - straight HTTP DL's are fine, and even the P2P shunts along nicely on weekends, and early in the morning. Not much to complain about besides the crappy ping to SGS servers when playing BC2.

So anyways i wake up, download an http file from mweb, cannot get more 90 and cannot surf when it runs at 90.

Load up openweb, same download going at 200 (limited) and i can surf :D. Also for the first time in two months speedtest gave me 3.5 meg yay. I have not seen 2 meg in the last 2 months.

So far so good.

Which backbone did you take?

I am on the altech i think, the username says altech :D. Never had a choice but they said it is the best one.

Ahhhh crap what smtp can i use hahah forgot about that.

Wow i can stream google while downloading at 200 :D. This is insane.

Basically MWEB doesn't know how to operate their new shaper and everything is FUBAR.

Happened. Not too surprised since the account was terminated a day after the billing cycle. MWeb billing now says they owe me R610.87. So some of June will be refunded too.

I use smtp.gmail.com (for my UCT email address). Works best since I change from ISP to ISP all the time...

Can i use that for any isp? I would love an smtp that just works with all the isps :D.

Gmail smtp works with any ISP. The only problem I ever had with it is that the principal company I contract for sends everything from gmail into their email junk shredder.

My Gold account is flying. Totally happy. Thanks MrBeep!

something i dont understand - i've upgraded a line from 384 to 1 mb last week, yet my download speed average around 50kbps?

on a good day my 384 downloaded around 50kbps. and my line is constantly resetting. but only on mweb. my axxess and cybersmart accounts don't reset.

i've never had any problems with mweb while on 384, but all of a sudden i do.

i'm downloading since friday on a 457mb update. and its still not complete. every so often the line reset and then the download start from the beginning! this is very frustrating.

no mweb, this is not the way....
