So how must Israel defend their citizens?

Israeli does want peace. They demonstrated that by withdrawing from the Gaza strip and dismantle settlements in 2005.

Hamas is the only party who does not want peace.
 
They (Israel) withdrew from the Gaza strip, but that so-called territory (Palestinians in Gaza) they live in is an abomination.

Would you want to live in the conditions they live in? No international airport, harbour or the other basic things that a state should have. Where everything going in or out is vetted by the Israeli government!

This conflict goes beyond Israel protecting their citizens. The conflict resolution in this regard hasn't worked.

Politically and morally this situation is insane. The world should be ashamed of how things have transpired in that part of the world.

Yes, but processes were in place until Hamas came to power; it would have taken time but all those things you speak of would eventually have come about. They put a stop to it and alienated all allies of the Palestinian Authority. As such there is even less to being with when the conflict does finally stop.

That's what you (and Hamas) are failing to see. This was built up over 50 years it won't be dismantled over night. Processes were in place, the ball was rolling, but Hamas' rise to power ended all that.

Does the Gaza strip not share a border with Egypt? Surely then any supposed blockade by Israel would be pointless?

The formation of Israel may be a contentious point to people, but the cold hard truth of the matter is that it currently exists and you cannot go back in time to when it didn't. A solution that acknowledges this and gets on with it is the only possible way forward and is the only step people who truly want peace can take.

In the end, the whole situation is utterly futile. A pointless region given undue attention and influence.

This is another prime example of how religion is messing up our earth.

Isnt amazing how GOD administers justice?
Look at ariel sharons history, first as a soldier and then as a leader of israel. Just imagine the number of human lives he has taken. Now, look at him.
In a coma for almost 2 years, best doctors in the world cant do anything, only GOD knows what he's being put through, maybe its like a conversation or a live screening of all the wrong that he has done.
No prayers can help him, now its too late.
Its time for him to face his fate...

You know what i find really damn funny.. watch the interviews with e.g. levini, and the former UN ambassador for Israel, the arabs bring up the nov 4 incursion that essentially broke the truce/ceasefire and you know what their response is??

Something like well for 8+ yrs we've been under attack etc etc.. and the they stop them over and over asking them to answer the darn question, but he doesn't LMFAO! Doesn't this sound so reminiscent? btw I must say those Israeli reps come across as being VERY arrogant.

I mean, if you want the world to see you point of view at least answer questions asked. :rolleyes:

I think the most memorable answer i saw in this thread is from marine where he justified the gaza conflict with the mumbai bombings. Its about as memorable as the one about muslim people headbanging in prayer as form of indoctrination :p

What you guys fail to see/understand is there was no good will from Israel's side, they were occupying more land (before Hamas came to power in Gaza), creating more settlements. They were even controlling the borders!

How can anyone dispute this? I don't support Hamas, for the 10th time, but I disagree with Israels hard line approach to a problem they created.

Hamas is in power because Fatah was largely seen as incompetent, corrupt and a puppet for Ariel Sharon and the Israeli government.
