The Middle East Conflict Thread

Too much to read but wanted to say re the above , all due respects if you believe that the US did not deliberately target civilians in Iraq then I suggest you look a little closer or maybe ask the victims of the US so called war on terror. War is ugly , innocent people will DIE , We have seem how the innocent died in 911 , we have seen how innocent people were driven over by Israeli Bulldozers.

All is wrong , taking innocent life cannot be right , no even in war , some idiot wrote collateral damage , hopefully your family or friends will never become victims of collateral damage.

Solution , divide the East 50/50 and end war now , eish how we wish.
The Israeli's will never give back what they have taken. Sorry to say.

Well if you make the accusation please supply proof of killing civilians in Iraq being U.S policy?

Secondly claiming killing people deliberately is the same as collateral damage is frankly BS. So the people who fought the Nazis were in fact no different to them. That is utterly insane

So be your logic if a nutter uses an infant as a human shield he can can kill as many innocent people as he wants because taking him out would mean killing the child. You would condemn the person who stops him(while obviously killing the child) and saving the lives of countless innocents lives as the same as the guy who deliberately intends to kill those innocent people. You would do nothing. Let him kill for as long as he pleases. Absolutely astonishing

ah so thats the root cause. Israel forces have been taught to see children in baby carriages as tanks! Thanks for making us aware of that :)

There is one detail that's not accurate, and that is the Hamas "combatant" is dressed similar the the Israeli soldier, when we all know that the Hamas "combatant" would be wearing civies to "blend in".

Palestine is not a state, has no army... what uniform should they be wearing? of course they'll blend in because fighters are just armed gangs.

True.
This makes it very difficult for the Israeli army in their persuit of the terrorists.

It might be said that as no war has been declared that military uniforms are not required ?
Good point, but I doubt that if war was declared by either party, that the terrorists would resort to wearing uniforms.
The wearing of civies by the Hamas combatants does not help Israel in their attempt at avoiding civilian casualties.

I think a few thousand rocket directed at Israel would qualify as a war declaration;)

Some have also claimed that the blockade, used to restrict the influx of illicit weapons into Gaza, is in itself a declaration of war.

The residents of Gaza, half of whom depend on U.N. food donations to survive, have been living in what can only be described as a vast, open-air prison. They are denied entry and exit by Israel. Since Nov. 4, when Israel violated a six-month truce and triggered crude rocket attacks on Israel by Hamas and Islamic jihad, the Palestinians in Gaza have suffered from a heightened Israeli blockade and massive collective punishment that is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law as laid down in Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. I have called on the International Criminal Court to investigate this violation and determine whether the Israeli leaders responsible for the Gaza siege should be indicted and prosecuted for violations of international criminal law.

The deadly attacks and the blockade of Gaza are defended by Israeli authorities as retaliation for the rockets that have been fired across the border into Israel. The firing of such rockets is also a violation of international law. It too targets innocent civilians and is a crime. I condemn these attacks.

The current spate of rocket attacks, which has caused one Israeli death, however, does not give Israel the moral or legal license to punish the entire population of Gaza, including the sick, children, the elderly and the majority of Palestinians who have no involvement whatsoever.

Well... if a Professor of international law who happens to be Jewish shares my view, I think it's obvious who the ones on the right side of the argument are.

There are many human-rights jewish organisations -

Adalah - The legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel
Amnesty International - Israel Section
B'Tselem - the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories
Bimkom - Planners for Planning Rights
Gisha - Legal Center for Freedom of Movement
Hamoked - Center for the Defense of the Individual
Physicians for Human Rights - Israel
Public Committee Against Torture in Israel
Rabbis for Human Rights
The Association for Civil Rights in Israel
Yesh Din - Volunteers for Human Rights

I guess they are regarded in a similar light to the Black Sash during the apartheid regime.
