Both parties need to acknowledge realities and neither parties current approach is working.

Quite simple - if you are dumb enough to put your head where there are bombs coming through the house, well ..... if the shroud fits, wear it. And you can call it anyway you like - do something stupid like come at an armed person with a butter knife, don't be surprised at the outcome. Sure, everyone else can be all upset that the poor fool got shot and how terrible it all is because he only had a butter knife and the other guy had a gun. But who was dumb?

And here is the thing - is it your house being bombed? Or your kids in a bag? Or do you like to moan and pretend that you've achieved something?

And what do I get out of the discussion? Not an awful lot. It is quite clear that there are two opposing views that have insulted one another, actions that have saved just how many lives exactly? And I am fully entitled to make my comments - the conflict is stupid and, frankly, most of the people on this planet don't care.

And when your tactics of hopping on a bus and blowing yourself up, or firing lamp posts across the fence ends up in you getting the snot knocked out of you, then maybe it is time to try something else. Give up on trying to claim the land - that's going nowhere. Go and ask the Syrians to lend you money to build your own ports so you are not dependent on imports from Israel. Build your own desalination plants. Make a plan. But I guess we need a few more heads smashed open before the dumb ones are all gone.

The chief of staff went on to say that Hamas was booby-trapping Gaza homes with entire families inside, in order to set off explosives should IDF troops take control of the houses.

He said Israel was making every effort to avoid harming innocent people, but that Hamas was exploiting the weakness of its civilians.

While Hamas commits Hamacide, a term my son Samer recently coined to define the group's self-destruction, Hizbullah is watching the events unfold with fear pounding the temples of its leadership and knowing full well that they must re-invent themselves for the next round of hostilities. Testing Iran's military field tactics or Assad's guerrilla warfare, and using the undeniably stupid leadership of Hamas, are but a distraction dwarfing the nuclear ambitions both Syria and Iran are racing towards.

The real opportunity of this war is that it may spark an Arab Renaissance if, and only if, the Assad regime is removed and replaced by Syrians intent on building a nation instead of destroying other countries, by moderate Muslims ready to crush extremists instead of amplifying their miserable existence, and by Arabs able to embrace nationalism in order to engineer coexistence instead of inventing "resistance."

For Arabs to save themselves from the doom of ignorance and ineptitude, we must fight for the freedom of our masses to liberate them from extremism. Saving Iraq from Saddam while keeping her sandwiched between Assad and Ahmadinejad is an irony of gargantuan proportions. Undeniably, oppression is the conduit through which extremism flourishes. Unless we resolve this oxymoronic doctrine in which stability comes with dictatorial rule yet the dictators themselves deliberately foster extremism, the Arab civilization is doomed
