Yeah I wonder if they give discount I am ordering 5 for friends and myself so we can save on shipping... only downside is the sleeves I don't really like the amazon ones I have a belkin one for my kindle 2 but they don't have any yet for kindle 3 :(

Yeah I'm also having an issue with the sleeves, as I won't buy a leather one. Going to have to wait for a synthetic sleeve to hit the market.

The pre-orders are already sold out, so delivery has moved on even further.

I have the leather cover, and quite like it. I think the newer ones that have a strap are even better. Having looked at pics of the covers with the built-in lamp, I'd avoid it - the light coverage looks to be *very* uneven. Whatever you do, buy the cover with the Kindle - much less hassle with customs etc.

What's the chance of 3rd party covers being available from Amazon before the Kindle 3 ships, so I can add the cover to my order?

Yeah I ordered 5 yesterday I did not see that they were sold out then... hope it ships I'm going for a month holiday on September 11 would really like to have it by then !

I'll keep my eyes open on the Kindleboards and let you know when I see one.
 
I've been looking at reviews on the net and just want some local input...

I'm trying to decide between the Sony Touch Edition (PRS-600) and the Kindle 3. While the Kindle can eb found cheaper and doesn't have the glare and resolution issues that come with a touch screen device, I am keen on being able to highlight text and write notes. Any thoughts/input?

Also what formats/devices should I look at for viewing technical books/textbooks with lots of graphs and drawings?
 
The Kindle is better and you can highlight text and write notes on the Kindle. If you need graphs and drawings then the Kindle DX is better, but because you need colour for these kinds of books the ipad would be a better option for you. If you're just reading fiction or books with text only then the Kindle 3 is the best.

Colour is not a problem for me and I really do not want to go the iPad route (shudder). I see that there is the Archos 9 which runs Windows 7.

I assume that highlighting ont he Kindle works through the keypad? And is there a way to bookmark highlighted text?
 
Yes to all, highlighting is very easy and it's also quite easy to find highlights, notes, and bookmarks you've made. More than that you can sync your comments to your kindle account and have access to them on your PC or compatible phone. I wouldn't want an ipad either.
 
Sweet! I'm going to be in Europe next month, hopefully some stock of the new Graphites would have shipped to stores by then.
