The official running thread™

Lekka, i'm gonna go for my first run again today in like 3 months, not looking forward to it hahah.
Hopefully i can get about 4km in.
Another thing that could potentially help your running, not sure if your lifestyle permits but i find running/exercising in a fasted state is amazing. Loads more energy and just feel good during the workout, varies from person to person but maybe give it a bash. Carry on carrying on!

i have been running in the morning first thing so yeah fasted.

this morning i was a lazy fsck.... anyway tomorrow is the 5k, what would you think is a decent goal time considering that i doubt i can run it all? im thinking somewhere around 35-40 mins?

Aim for a sub 40. What also works is an interval style approach. So run for a minute, walk for 30 seconds (or whatever feels comfortable). Alternate like this and you'll be done in no time.

Good luck!

I bought a bike on Thursday. Aint doing no running thing!

Did 29:47 this morning, don't know whats happening, getting slower and slower.
My First Parkrun was my best, it was raining and there was slippery mud, so i figured i'd do better when there's no mud, turns out i was wrong:

Prior to starting Parkrun in mid last year i averaged easily in the 25/26m then work got busy and i stopped running, now trying again not getting anywhere.

Be cool when AR is integrated to the point where you can see you previous time as a projected person in the real world that you can pace / race against. Kinda like ghost cars in racing games.

Surely there must be some fitness watches that can display this on a small lcd with a map?

My tomtom multispoet has this function you race your old time etc. As long as you running the same route. Tells you how far ahead or behind you are

i must have looked a little special this morning when i started hobbling, feels a bit better now though, jogged basically the whole 2km this morning, time 12:45. what do you guys think better my time or increase my distance?

Listen to your body. Take a rest and don't overdo it, you'll injure yourself

I always go for distance. But take it easy now, if you don't yout body will repay you! I speak from experience. Try build up slowly to a 10km run and then do an all out 5km, you will find this approach makes the 5km speed run a lot easier. You will have a lot more endurance and stamina like this. Just make sure you start taking a bit of water with for the runs longer than 30min.

Definitely increase distance rather than trying to go faster at this point. Trying to go too fast too soon is basically guaranteeing yourself an injury.

cool i think i will up the distance gradually. like 500m-1km a week kind of thing, but will see how it goes.

I was pondering getting a fitness watch to get more accurate results but im in two minds, what would you guys recommend on the entry level side of things? the one idea i like about it is pacing.
