The official running thread™

Anyone from the East rand doing the race at ERPM tonight? Ive never done a trail run at night... hope my light holds.

No, more info? Is it frequent?
I think there will be there will be more events like this. This one was the second one in the series. I did a 53:44 on 9.75 (almost 10) KM. Search on Facebook for "Eastern Nights Trail Run Series". I dont know when the next one will be, or where.

It was fun but very dark and my torch just didn't cut it. Ill do it again but with a stronger torch :D

Get a head lamp. Been using one for four years. Works like a dream for night runs or early morning

Is anyone here running the Irene Marathon this sunday (Any of the distances)?
My first 21.1km, and I'm just slightly nervous.

if you have been training you shouldn't be nervous, give it beans son!

While I agree with most of this if you want to stick to a twice weekly trot around your neighbourhood, the equipment (including things like bum cream) makes a big difference once the distances start getting longer. If anyone wants to start running half marathons, 30km runs and full marathons, a 'normal t-shirt' (assuming you mean a cotton one?) won't cut it unless you like bleeding nipples; blisters caused by Mr Price special tekkies or a scrotum that's on fire thanks to chafe due to no vaseline or compression pants.

Seconded. If you do chafe, non-technical shorts and shirt hurt. I use proper running clothes, and I use anti-chafing cream on longer runs.

I use Mr price sport running shirt and shorts. I also use ski pants under the shorts. Ever since I have done this I have never chaffed works like a dream no weird creams/lubes/gels etc

I stil kak myself before every race no matter how hard I trained.

As you get fitter you just go faster so it's always hard.

Before a race my body knows - nou gaan ons kak Pappa
THIS!!!

I've been cycling for many, many years and I always stress before a race, even though Ive done thousands of KMs in preparation.

My motto: Learn to race against yourself, its the best opponent you'll ever have.

Which socks do you guys prefer? Thick running socks or the thing ones?
Ive tried both, and i find the thin Falke socks are great.

Falke is just awesome.

My favorite socks at the moment:ILB.jpg

Decided to skip the park run due to the rain (muddy) and did my 2km route in 11mins. I swear it seems to be getting harder

good luck buddy, nice weather for a run if the rain holds out

Nice to be back on the road after 2 weeks off, running the Leapfrog 21km in Gordon's Bay. Perfect conditions, not hot and no wind to speak of. Last long run before Oceans in 2 weeks.

I'm enjoying listening to this interesting interview with Kerrie Bruxort:

Still working on my right foot but I'm almost back to a normal wear pattern. Getting the arch back too, it's only a centimeter longer than my left foot now (from about twice that). It almost looks like my pre-op foot again lol (as someone who's a bit into feet it's always bugged me).

I think I'll start running in a few months.

taking it lazy today xD

might walk the dogs later, would love to run with them but especially the one who needs it only knows one speed, not sure if i could ever get him to calm down enough to keep a decent pace
