The official running thread™

Massive respect, did the hike from Mahai up to Witsieshoek a few years back and that kicks up quite significantly, and that is only the 12km point.

Maybe one day when am big
It took a while to get ready (in general, not just for this race), but consistency is the answer, and probably a good 12 month journey - it's not so impossible ;)

And remember, you don't run the whole way, probably only about 50%

The gully was probably the worst part, going down on tired legs with your toes hammering the front of the shoes.

That reminds me. On a trail a few weeks back and we came to a fairly steep descent and I froze. Stood there a few minutes just looking at it and wondering wtf am I doing here. A few others passed me like gazelles and I'm still standing there wondering if I should crawl down or turn back

Eventually clambered down

Am still only at the half marathon stage, a full marathon is probably a way off but if I get there I will probably add this one to the list. :)

Generally, it's very inefficient running up a steep technical section, at least for an amateur, the speed you gain is offset by a huge loss of energy and stamina. It is no shame to walk, or rather, speed hike. Then when it gets easier (less technical or flat), you run it as fast as you feel like.

If it's a short race or distance, then sure, run like a bokkie, especially if you don't need to worry about cramps etc.

Okay, as a relatively new runner (again) and clicking in at 120kg. Zone 2 running horrible, I am slow at the best of times but zone 2 slow is next level.
It does suck. Best advice I can give is to walk when you need to. Your body doesn't care if you are running or not when building that base. It does feel counterintuitive, but it works.

My Zone 2 HR is still high after almost a year of running and I still need to walk some uphills to keep the HR low enough, but my pace increased from 8min/km to 6:30 ish for the same HR levels. Progress is there, it just takes time.

Btw: Join us in the Fitness thread, sharing daily run/struggles there...

For those thinking about it, do it!

Monties was a really amazing experience, well organised, and obviously one of the most beautiful parts of SA. Tough race, but worth the effort.

It's only 4hrs from Gauteng, and the entry includes meals and camp site - good value for money.

And they support the conservation of this amazing bird, the bearded vulture:

Yeah, they support the vulture by letting it feast on the carcasses of slow runners

Can anyone get the Puma Black Friday sale code to work? Even though the running shoes are listed, no discount is given when you apply the code. Which sucks big time!

Unfortunately, no luck here either. I did manage to snag a couple of pairs during Puma’s early Black Friday sale last Friday and Saturday, when they were offering 50% off so glad I jumped on that.

How have your Puma purchases held up this year? I haven’t been on MyBroadband for a while, but I’ve put a pair of Puma MagMax shoes through their paces. They’re incredibly comfortable, though I wouldn’t recommend them for tempo or threshold workouts.

For me, the Velocity and Deviate models are still the frontrunners. If you’re considering alternatives and can find them at good prices, here are a few suggestions:

Adidas Boston 12
Adidas Adizero SL2
Asics Novablast 4

If you’re into shoes with TPU plates, try these:

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4 or v5
Puma Deviate
Asics Magic Speed

Quick tip for Adidas: go up half a size or even a full size for the best fit.

As for me, I’m not the biggest fan of my Bostons. I clocked around 130 km on them in one week but haven’t touched them since August they just didn’t stick for me.

Welcome back! How did I miss the early sale? Kept a constant eye, but never saw the 50% sale only a 30% off pre-applied price which didn't have any of the shoes.

I'm very happy with my Pumas. Been basically running in them constantly and reaching for them instead of the Asics. Think the Velocity Nitro 2 size 8.5 has over 200km and the size 8 has around 100km on the clock.

You are now legally obliged to inform me of these sales so I don't miss out again.

The early black friday sale code was emailed out to people that signed up for their newsletter. the code however was the same "BF50" On Monday or Tuesday they had the 40% discount but the code had the same issue where, when applied it did not seem to work. Just keep an eye on it though maybe it starts to work throughout the day?

Good day today.

I got 10x 1000 round boxes of 5.56mm AP ammo and 2x M4A1's for 20% off the usual listed price.
Im assuming you are posting this in the running thread because you fire just one shot and people start running?
