The official running thread™

Was quite hot the last week rain came at the perfect time early this morning was awesomely cool weather to run in set out for an easy run, decided to push it a bit

Little man is loving his weekend runs!

Yeet also a new PB

I am not too phased doing more threshold runs as I only have 2 runs a week and do lifting/walking during the week.

I am doing this one in 2 weeks the 25km.

If you have cycled out there you will know the terrain rolling long hills up and down. You can see the top so you gotta suck it up to the top then catch your breath on the way down.

Not my favorite because of all the bicycles but is lekker out there and if you are lucky you can see some rhinos.

I quite like the update to the gear section Garmin has implemented. A bit more informative and you can even add some pics of your shoes now.

In order to try something new I picked up my first pair of Salomon shoes at the start of February, just before my ear issue returned. Have been testing them and I must say I'm quite impressed. I picked up the Areo Glide 3 GRVL. It's a max cushion shoe very similar to the Novablast, but I think this might actually be superior. It's not as soft as the Novablast and while not a stability shoe still seems to more than stable enough. The hollow heel does feel odd, but I'm getting used to that.

I like the firmer feel and you still get ground feel while having something that absorbs the impact nicely and offers quite a bit of energy return. The toe box is roomy, the UK 9 might be slightly big for me and 8.5 would've been perfect, but they didn't have half sizes. I went for the GRVL version since the durability of the sole on the road version seems to be iffy. With close to 75 km on the clock the rubber on the GRVL shoes hardly any wear. I think this foam won't go flat like the Novablast reportedly does.

So far I've done all my runs in this. It handles most paces very well. I've done 6:00 to 3:40/km pace and felt great. Still need to do a pure sprint and threshold session when Garmin allows me to again.

Really impressed.

Guys, need some help choosing a hydration pack or something for my first half marathon this weekend

Anything on takealot you would recommend?

Thanks in advance 😊

Try this for your sweets and gels. If its a sanctioned event, then you will have water tables at intervals. No need to carry flasks.

get a proper running belt, not a cellphone holder belt:

Just some advice, get some decent electrolytes in before the run. Makes a huge difference.
I am not sure if I am even ready atm. Maybe I should skip this and actually run with a hydration pack and using gels  or am I over thinking it....

As said elsewhere, if this is a sanctioned, licensed run there should be water tables so no need for a hydration pack

Rehydration formula before the race works wonders...

I take one table the night before and one in the morning before the race.

During the race I have an energy gel every 6-7km or so, i used these previously but am considering changing as if you don't have a water sachet to wash it down it's very sticky.

There are loads of different options, might be worth trying a few before hand.

Good luck with your run, hope you smash it.

With hydration packs dont get something that sits too close to your neck, they rub and at the end of 2 hours you can get some nasty blisters.

Then you get something that suits your needs, slightly bigger can hold a jacket, bladder, and juice bottles in the front but risk rubbing. Lighter, mesh straps can only hold a bladder and gels.

These things are hot so I would get the most breathable, lightest one you can get if you haven't run with one before. The lighter more breathable the more expensive.

Definitely get the mesh shoulder straps if you can and as much mesh at the back as possible.

But honestly some gels in your pocket and drinking at the stations will be fine. It's only 21km so one gel/energy bar/nutrition before and one at 10km should be more than enough.

I only really use the pack for long runs that are not supported when I go out by myself.
