The official running thread™

Wow, that's quite a wide baseline.

My HRV is also down the dumps for the last week. My baseline is from 63 - 76 ms.

I think its from partying from last week (Festival/my Birthday, still recovering this week lol). You can see when I started 🥲 The watch knows every time...even if its one beer. I will report back in two weeks with new hrv info.

Lol I can also go back on mine and see exactly where I had some drinks. Like you say even just a few clearly has an affect and a heavy night/weekend takes a while to recover.

Cut down to almost cutting out alcohol and my sleep and HR have never been better and more consistent.

Planning on 2X10-15km this weekend with the little one again!

Have fun y'all

Great to use it to see if there is a cold coming on.

Been a journey to erase the "damage" I did during covid

Set out for a beautiful 15km run this morning, everything aligned, great sleep, fueled properly, warmed up properly and had the best little companion boy with me this morning. Knocked 10Sec per/km off my last 15km so im super chuffed with this.

Cooled down properly had a great breakfast and looking forward to an easier 10km tomorrow morning - weather permitting.

also new 5km PB :)

Once again almost impossible to run lower than zone 4 with the pram, no phased ill try incorporate an easy 5-7km Monday without the little guy. Weekends are father/son runs!

Strava uses different zones anyway I feel fine whatever these zones are

Ran the local Galleria Mall challenge 21km yesterday. No matter how many times you run that route, it will humble you on race day. But I enjoyed the opportunity to encourage and chat to colleagues as we passed each other and even at the finish, it was a good vibe with all.

Good luck, am still trying to psych myself up for a full marathon, I might target this one again next year if am feeling brave...
From my learnings, don't rush the process. When your training is spot on, then go for it. I succumbed to group pressure and paid the price alone. All the best!!

Thanks yeah, my fear is real so it will be a slow process..

I say just pick one and go for it. At this point everything is aimed at comrades in June and then it is quiet time untill October/November.

That is plenty time time to get yourself up to comfortably doing 21kms on the weekend by about June. The fun part.

After that is the hard stuff 25, 30, 35kms, hill repeats, speed sessions. In June grab a coach. Garmin coach is fine but I feel like they over train you.

Coach parry app is pretty good and has a plan with some strength work which is nice but is R1000.

Any decent running club will have a coach, Nike has a plan, Adidas has a plan etc etc.

Race wise kaapsehoop is my favourite road race in south africa, well organised, plenty support, nice little holiday for the family for a few days and the whole of nelspruit becomes a runners town. After the race everyone is in their shirts in the town going down stairs backwards.

Downhill races hurt like hell for the next week which is the only problem.

If all goes according to plan, I plan on finally doing a 21km on Saturday, no pram this time.
