The Official Vidi Local Streaming Feedback Thread

Not too impressed. Tried out some Grey's Anatomy ... One or two of the episodes got mixed up. Thought it would only be Season 1 and saw that Season 2 was even worse. The description would eg. state S02E01 but play S02E05. Spoilt it for me :(

Pop them a mail so they can fix it.

Being trying it as well, so far my irritations that they need to sort out :

1. Site speed is painfully slow, streaming is ok. I see the site is being hosted on Amazon AWS, and the streaming from MWeb. Move the site to SA as well please.

2. Logon timeout, why can't we just stay logged in I find it frustrating that I have to sign-in again after watching something that is longer than an hour.

3. Menu system looks great however its very slow to navigate.

I'm finding the streaming to be inconsistent at best and really poor at worst. I have a 10mb line and other sites like Youtube stream without a problem, so I don't think it's my connection. I tried through two ISPs - Axxess and Web Africa - so I don't think the problem is there either.

I notice that the bar at the bottom of Vidi has a signal indicator ranging from 0 to 4 bars, which I assume has something to do with the strength of the connection through to them. Sometimes (rarely) I get four bars and everything is just peachy, but most of the time it's around two and last night there was nothing - which basically made the service impossible to use. Unless you really like looking at a static picture with the word "buffering" on it.

I'd love to support this service and see the offerings grow, but it's unusable in this state. Did Times Media underestimate demand? I'd like to know what their actual capacity is. How has everyone else's experience been now that the service has been up and running for a few weeks?

+1 Decided to give Vidi a go tonight and rented The Departed and been having buffering issues all the time on my 4Mbps line. Definitely not a line issue as all other sites are flying, incl YouTube 720p with no buffering. Really disappointed, I'd rather pay double and hire it from iTunes or Amazon instead of having it buffer every second!

Their payment gateway also can't be reached right now, so perhaps they're having some server-side issues.

Are you on Afrihost?

Afrihost sucks for streaming.

I'm sticking with dstv. HD quality, no loading time, and excellent online streaming. If you have an Explora you will see that Vidi is a poor comparison. Besides being slow, at 1gig data usage per movie, plus movie rental, plus Telkom line rental, plus DSL line all this at not so good streaming quality - DSTV is still tops in value for money.
