That's great to know.

Stupid question. But can you change the camera used (Wide, Ultrawide, Macro) in the normal photo modes too or is that just available in the Pro setting?

Also any idea how the image size settings are related to actual image size in actual pixels?
I would imagine is the same as mine and you can use all the cameras in auto mode or pro mode. Shots are binned 4 pixels in 1 so shots should be 12 megapixels from the main 48 megapixels camera

I can't seem to find anywhere except in pro mode to select the different cameras. Might be missing something obvious. Are you running Miiu 12?

Ultra wide is selected by pinch zoom out and macro is under the hamburger settings menu

Xiaomi makes good stuff. Not for people that brag. That is for Apple lovers and Samsung devotees.
Xiaomi pricing for their products is insanely low. They have come a long way in a short time. I wish them well .

So far I'm pretty impressed with the Note 8. Handles well, the camera is an improvement (which was main reason for getting it) and the battery life looks good. After doing the huge update, installing apps an general messing about yesterday it's still at 56%.

Only thing is the screen quality. Slight shadow around the edges and I can see the text dimming when I scroll on sites. But for this price it's very decent.

Got mine for R5000 in November last year. Had to pay R350 to UPS before delivery though as I did not buy from Amazon but from a third party seller. Comparison vs Note 9 Pro:

Edit: Mine even came with a transparent back cover as well as front tempered glass included in the box

Edit2: If you wnat to buy local with a local warranty:

I see this is the international version. Does that work fine here in South Africa? What is the difference between the international and global versions?

Here is the thing with Xiaomi phones... you never see, hear or experience shitty updates. Why de fuq can't other manufacturers too? . HMD ****ed up my Nokia 1. It was working 100% with Android 8.1. That's how I bought it. Fast as can be even though it's running Android GO.
Than they updated to Pie. And than 10. And the phone became a POS.

Never touching another Nokia as long as HMD is running the show. Disgrace from a company that at one stage was the best of the best. HMD trying to show they are the fastest at rolling out Software that is not tested. I'm not a guinea pig.

Nokia hardware still strong. But what's the use of it if software cripples the phone? It's a stupid joke lol. Never again.

I forgot to add that people ask me what phone I'm using now (9c is big). I say Xiaomi. They like WTF lol. They never heard of the brand. I just say it's Chinese and I move along. No need to make a statement when you know that you are holding the best value for money in your hand. Xiaomi not for braggers. It's for people that just get on with the job and do it.

YOu should point such people to figures like this:

Xiaomi shipped 3rd most handsets in Q4 2020...

Though those stats are close to useless, you’ve got a maker who’s cheapest handset is about US$500 and sells millions of phones for around US$1k being compared to makers who sell millions of circa US$100 handsets.

It would probably be more accurate to compare profitability per handset, and I say that as a Xiaomi Mi10T owner.

Nevertheless, they have outperformed Huawei probably due to the android apps issue and I would say if they can stay in 3rd position it is still quite an accomplishment.

Though it’s likely Huawei effectively losing almost all its western business did that more than anything Xiaomi did .
How far is Xiaomi from getting the Huawei-ban treatment though?

A long way, Trump’s last tantrum was a simple investment ban (ie. buying shares) in Xiaomi, not the nuclear option that no US firm, or any firm with US connections, could do business with Huawei.

Has anyone here paired the Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 with a Redmi Note 8 that has gotten the AAC codec to work?

Mine keeps on defaulting back to SBC which has pretty crappy audio quality. Apparently the limitation is on the phone side, and not the buds. Disappointing :(
