The OpenWeb VPN Progress Report Thread

Wow i wanted to get VPN but after reading this thread it seems i will spend more time waiting for openweb to answer their phone than surfing the web.

I don't really have many problems. R299 for 10Gig 384kbps and R349 for 10Gig 512kbps is a huge saving. The VPN disconnects every morning at 00h00 and 09h00 and the connection is a bit slow after that for a while, but it is set to auto-reconnect, which it does most of the time. Other than that I can't really complain. Whenever there is something to complain about it is usually IS's fault. No, I am a very happy customer.

Too bad they dont have the 299 384k 10g bundle. Sold out... How on Earth is it sold out?!?! and if its so bloody popular then why dont they ... erm... get more stock? meh... /rant

When I launched this product, I only released a set number of accounts. I will not overload the network as this will disadvantage all VPN clients.

Thus, all stock is now sold out until some folks cancell. We will also not increase the network capacity as we feel that the more clients on the network, the less personal our contact with our clients will be.

I can however hint that we have a new 30GB product launching today or tomorrow which will be the best value for money yet!! (There is still some space on our 30GB network segment).

Watch this space.

OPENWEB takes FOREVER !!!

Dear OpenWeb,

I'm experiencing a problem with my account:

Account : ow5513

I have emailed support about my account which I have paid for on the 22nd of Dec and sent confirmation from my ABSA internet banking to [email protected] the payment was done at 16:02 on the 22nd from my absa account and got sms to confirm payment was successfull!!

I am yet to be able to use this account as it is still pending FOUR days later !!!! after payment

I have been forced to go to web africa in the mean time because 1) thier telephone number works and you can get support and a prepaid account even at 00:20 on Xmas day !!! AWESOME !! 2) all emails sent to openweb asking u to enable account I have paid for comes back as waiting on delivery !!!

for the 4th time please please pretty please enable my account !!!

Thanks, JP

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but this is a fairly large thread and reading through it will take quite an age.

I'm interested in purchasing one of these accounts. The problem is that currently three computers connect to through our router via wifi. Our router is the standard router one receives with a Telkom Closer contract (ADSL2+ Wireless G Router). Is it possible to setup this VPN account in a manner than will allow all three computers to make use of it, or not?

Thanks for the help!

i would suggest ask mr beep for a test/guest vpn first to see if you router can handle the actual pptp setup.

if that is not the option then you would have one pc connected to vpn and share the vpn via ICS.

imho you would need 2 separate devices todo the hardware trick, one dial local and other dial vpn- both in router mode and same sub; i think this would do it as you would have to pair or daisy chain them. have not tested this though but for the love of it i couldnt get pptp working on my dlink in the "normal" method.

Thanks!

What's the latency like on these accounts? I'm currently on SAIX shaped and I do a load of online gaming. Will I be better off with a VPN account? (please say yes xD)

Thanks!

open web suck never again they a bunch of crooks to put it bluntly and they not gonna live long I hope

Funny how different people have different opinions about Openweb, I've used them since June 2007 (SAIX and IS) and only had 1 issue - plus it got resolved with 24h - so no complaint about service or price.

I had issues with openweb, but always it was sorted out as you say in 24h window. form my pov mr beep has always gone as far as possible to assist me.

whats the use of this bord if you dont post a comment the freedom of speech I will then post it on a different bord and even go as opening a block web page to voice my comment ! to the moderator of this silly bord so fare !!! for removing my comment ass whole !

Perhaps it was the lack of spelling and punctuation which makes your posts pretty hard to understand which led to the removal of your previous post. =P

The Openweb VPN product has been a bit of a love-hate scenario with me.

The pricing is awesome. The latency in WoW is awesome (my main use of the product).

I can handle the 12am and 9am disconnects.

However, every month (usually on the weekends) I have various issues ranging from slow speeds to not being able to log on.

Fortunately I am now on first name terms with MrBeep and he is an awesome guy who really cares. I am willing to assist in tracking down any problems (within my power of course).

I wouldn't recommend the product to someone with basic computer knowledge but for a bandwidth hungry person who doesn't mind the odd downtime or 2 this product is great.
