They're also still faster than sata ssds, their real world performance is pretty good at the price, https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/9089/mushkin-helix-low-cost-nvme-ssd-review/index.html

EDIT: Launching apps/games you will not notice the speed difference between a sata & nvme ssd as it's like 1-2sec at most difference.

Unless you are copying big files all the time or using io intensive productivity apps I would go for size over specced speed. For the price of a 1tb 970evo you can get two cheaper 1tb drives for example and it will still be lightning fast. All depends on your use case.
Agreed, I'm not going to be using prod apps, so I'm more interested in price vs real world speeds. Which is why those mushkins are perfect for me

Morning guys,

So I'm back here again as my insurance finally paid me out. Now I'm looking for a rig that can play most, if not all games at 60+ FPS on high or ultra settings. The budget has now been upped to R12k-R14k.
I must also add my peripherals was also stolen when my house got broken into so the price must include that too.

I was thinking of this below, if anyone can do a better build than I did please share it as it's been a while since I built a PC

My insurance getting quotes instead of just paying me out .

Wasting my time. Hopefully sorted by tomorrow.

What insurer are you with? As with mine I jist phoned, gave the details what happened and gave the case number. Few days later the assessor called my broker to confirm everything and payment plans made. Even when I had my three accidents with my car it was much the same, phoned that I was in an accident, gave the case number, got asked my preferred panel beater. Took the car in to said panel beater and picked my repaired car back up without hassle. I also have an excess waiver

Discovery

They pretty good but with PC its a pain in the ass.

Everything else was fairly quick.

Mushkin is probably better now. But I won't buy it again after RAM and SSD failed in less than a year.

What's the hold up with the PC? Them just being a-holes?
Yep

Their service provider quoted a crap case ito what I had. Handles on hdds in case and hot swap bay.

Then quoted Adata when I had corsair ram, samsung and kingston ssds.

When I told him I need a hot swap drive ... told me can do it if I give up a hdd.

Underquoted and wants to give me less than I had.

So now insurance trying other service providers when I could build a better system for less money

Jeez that smells of incompetence, good luck man I really hope they sort this mess out for you

Can't you just spec your own components and get a company or two to quote on it which gets submitted to insurance and they pay out the cash to you? That's what I did.

Whats your thoughts on the Razer Cynosa Chroma?

Rebeltech have it on sale tomorrow only for R899. I am in the market for a new keyboard (currently using the Logitech G213 Prodigy) so was wondering if it is any good or should I be looking elsewhere?

Hi Guys

I was hoping to ask for some assistance on this thread, I need to build a gaming PC, the last time I built one was about 10 years ago so I am not up to date with all the specs etc.

From the research I have done in this thread, I have come up with the below (all from wootware):

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @R3799

RAM: G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GVKB Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200MHz @R1369

MB: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max AMD @R2364

Case: Phanteks PH-EC400ATG_DBK01 Eclipse P400A Digital RGB @1299

I need help with the following:

PSU - Not sure what I should get here? Modular or not?

GPU - There are so many options... I am completely lost, would it be a good idea to go used?

SSD - Mushkin MKNSSDHL500GB-D8 Helix-L 500GB M.2 (2280) PCIe NVMe

2nd HDD - Western-Digital WD10EZEX Blue 1TB 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s 64MB

Monitor - I was looking at the AOC C27G1 27" Full HD (1920x1080) 144Hz 1ms VA 1800R Curved FreeSync @R4999, but the online reviews are not that great, any suggestions here? I have also heard that for gaming, a 24" is actually better?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Would this GPU be a good buy new @R5000:
MSI Radeon RX VEGA 56 AIR BOOST 8GB HBM2 OC

@Robvd - that setup is very close to what I came up with for my son recently.

I'm not sure if the Ryzen 5 3600 is completely necessary? You could look at the Ryzen 5 2600.
The RX 5700 is 4k capable if I'm not mistaken. So you can save yourself some bucks and go from the RX 570 instead?

Thanks, I have always been the kind of person to buy once cry once, so I would like the PC to be somewhat future proof as well.

Is this a good future proof setup? Anything you would change?

Is there a particular reason to go with the Tomahawk Max, any particular features you need there?

There are lower-end B450 boards which should work just fine, giving you additional budget towards the GPU which, if it’s a gaming rig, is where most of your performance is going to come from.
