I've noticed a 2hnd GTX 1070 8GB can be had for around R5k these days, that's just about the best value card I have found considering the specs.

What are they like, are there any shortcoming or things to be aware of with these cards?
They are pretty old, 2016 first release, potential pitfalls of a 5yr old GPU?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

GRAPHICS PROCESSOR GP104

CORES 1920

TMUS 120

ROPS 64

MEMORY SIZE8 GB

MEMORY TYPEG DDR5

BUS WIDTH 256 bit
Has anyone had experience with this card, feedback?

Seems Wootware has upped their prices again R100 to R200 on RAM and looks like about R300 to R500 on CPUs

I noticed that, left it too long to order ram and now it's backordered and more expensive, damnit.

You guys say ram prices have dropped since a few months ago, how much did 2 x 16gb 3200mhz CL16 used to be back then?

Hey everyone & festive greetings,

Appreciate all the super feedback/suggestions here. :notworthy: :)

Upgrading from an i7 870 1st Gen CPU.

Looking to complete a Z690/DDR5 build.

Using existing
Case [Gigabyte 3D Aurora]
KB/Mouse
Monitor
GPU [if it still works, 550Ti] future 3060Ti if possible, 1080p/1440p gaming.

Items recently acquired
Motherboard
i5 12600K
2x 16GB DDR5 [Ordered month ago from Amazon UK, just landed in S.A. delivery next week o_O ]

I am looking for locally sourced if possible LGA 1700 CPU cooler [won't be OC'ing] / thermal paste & decent PSU [modular one to go for now?]
Rebeltech do not have the LGA 1700 kit included on their current stock and only getting those next year.

Budget R3000,00 +-

Thanks for the help.:giggle:

PS
Wooware has Kingston KF548C38BB-16 Fury Beast 16GB (1x16GB) DDR5-4800MHz CL38 1.1V Black Desktop Memory for R3,499.00 incase anyone is looking ;)

About R400 more then now, the ones I have in my machine are now R1899 but they have been as high as R2299, they were R2299 in early 2019 when I bought them. The Ripjaw version of the ram was R1699 at one point and went down to R1199 at one point.

My new tower came with a Antec Neptune 240 AIO Liquid Cooler and damn that pump is noisy, it makes a similar noise to an old fan that's on it's last legs or is has unbalanced fan blades, I did unplug the fans on the radiator and its not them making the noise. It is a bit disappointing because I was hoping a liquid cooler equals less noise.

Is that normal for liquid coolers, reviews seem to mention the pumps can be quite noisy?

Noctua, Be Quiet! etc. have added compatibility kits for their stuff but no-one locally seems to have it (Amazon does). Short of speaking to each retailer and seeing what they have available, I'm guessing people will have to wait. Doesn't help that we're entering yearend close-off.

The Super Flower 650W silver was an easy recommend at R999 but I see it's 450 bucks up the road now :cautious:

I'm still using my ASUS ROG STRIX 1070 OC bought around 2017, setup with Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB 3600MHz and MSI B550 Tomahawk.
I haven't been playing the latest games recently but it's a still a decent card for 1080p gaming.
I played Shadow of the Tomb Raider, NFS Heat, Forza 4/5, The Witcher 3 and Mass Effect Andromeda on max settings with 1080p 144Hz monitor and didn't have any issues.
It also depends on what CPU and RAM you have.

Well it arrived the Raidmax AC1204 cpu cooler was R525 on takealot, it is a 120cm fan, it has 4 heatpipes, it has those silly clip things for the fan.
Got some coolermaster thermal paste at the same time as I'm not sure if I trust the ones that come in the packet.
Temps on my 2600 Ryzen stock were 60 to 65 while gaming and 50 when idle. Now with this is 40 to 42 while gaming and 30 while idling. It's also a bit quieter even though it could ramp up to 2400rpm if needed and even at that not to bad.
Difference from a hyper 212 or Gammax 400 is that you can literally take off the old cooler and screw the new one into the back plate. Obviously after putting on the right bracket, Intel is a little more complicated with some plastic things you need to add. IMG_20211210_085710.jpg IMG_20211210_072103.jpg

PLEASE don't forget to take off that white protective tape from the base-plate

Holy fork "RGB PWM fan that can reach up to 2400RPM to keep the heatsink temps down"

Have you tried to benchtest it to see what it sounds like at 2400rpm?

The Maximum CPU TDP is 150W, so it may be a good replacement for my noisy liquid cooler on my 3950X.

I cranked it up to 2400rpm via the built in Gigabyte software and it was alright. I'd have to do a wider test. The ARGB is plugged in, just don't know how to control it via Gigabytes software as my older fans are analogue this is DLED.
