Agreed on the chair but kids wants it and dad is happy to go for it so it’s a done deal. Budget started at 20k until kid wanted more and here we are. R2k for a chair isn’t an issue.

I’m not at a PC now, any monitor recommendations that won’t break the budget?

144Hz would be better but from what I recall they’re kak expensive.

3900x is overkill, but pops is interested in longevity so I reckon getting the base components right now is the ideal platform, other things can be upgraded as we go.

Also note that the AMD drivers are reportedly not in great shape at the moment. I'm not using an AMD card currently so cannot confirm or deny but GamersNexus reports that they have had quite a few issues with the Navi cards' drivers.

Also if streaming is planned in the near future the nvenc encoder on Nvidia cards is far superior to the AMD encoder.

The 5700XT certainly is slightly faster than a 2060 Super but the Nvidia card can be had for less money (according to Wootware).

Sounds like I'm really bitching about the AMD card but I just think you need to consider all these things and get the right card for the job with the least amount of headaches.

Rather use the R2000 savings on the 3900x to a 3700x (which will still be future proof for a few years) and get a 27" 144hz monitor for them :). Would be better as 1440p 27" and as Zoidberg said saving on the GFX card as well. The 2060 is still a really good performer and it's cheaper.

I think the 3900x is not needed, the 3700x is a better option here imo.

I think you should get a slightly bigger SSD, 250GB is just slightly too small. A 500GB drive would be much better.

What CPU cooler are you going with or you just going to use the stock cooler?

That case is great, bought myself one too.

That monitor doesn't have any variable refresh rate tech, maybe something to look into - if you go with the cheaper CPU you could spend a bit more here maybe.

3900x is way overkill for gaming. At the moment 8 cores/threads does the job, devs code for consoles first as that is a vastly bigger market so pc kinda follows suite. By the time consoles have 24 threads your kid will probably be somewhere between varsity or a job and by then you'll be able to pick up a used 3950X for the price of a six-pack. 3700x is more than enough for many years to come.

B450 Tomahawk is fine but the revised MAX version iss out.

RAM ok, 3600MHz would be nice.

PSU you can do better seeing as your spending 30k o a rig. Super Flower SF-650F14HG(BK) Leadex III Gold 650W 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular Black Desktop Power Supply

That Muskin SSD has no RAM for cache and cannot maintain sustained performance. It's puny, you'll fit the OS, office and 2-3 games on it.

The 5700XT is a better performer than the 2060Super but as mentioned I've heard the drivers are not as stable as with nvidia, should improve ith time.

4x SSD size and this one has cache
No gpu, pick a 2060S or 5700xt for ~R7k.

If you want future-proofing, rather get an x570 board than a 3900X, as it supports PCI-e 4.0. You will probably upgrade the GPU twice before upgrading the CPU.
I agree with ponder on the pilot instead of the helix, and the larger size.
Most reviewers rate the Ryzen 3600 as ideal for gaming, but I also think the 3700X is a better idea for longevity. You can always upgrade later-on, as the 4000 series should fit the same socket, otherwise you can get a 3950X for cheap in a couple of years.
I think the GSKill RAM is also rated more highly than Corsair this generation, but it shouldn't make any real difference.

Edit: Wireless?
If you are spending money on a gaming chair, the least you can do is give the poor kid an ethernet cable.

Those boards are usually pricey and very few people will have a need for pcie 4. pcie4 will benefit those that have heavy I/O requirements running nvme drives in raid etc, so mostly productivity usage. AMD said the AM4 socket will be supported until 2020, we'll probably see one or two more iterations on the existing socket before AM5 pops up. They've had a really great run on this socket. Threadripper already has a new socket that's not backwards compatible. By the time he upgrades he can get a used 3950x or 4000 series or just move to the new socket...

The B520 & B550 chipset boards should also be around soon I think. Apparently the B600 chipset is for 4000 series desktop cpus.

Not sure whether to go with Intel or AMD. I only game, code and a bit of graphic design.

Thinking of the following so far:

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolve Shift Air R1349 or the Fractal Design Node 202 (Checking for stock on this)
Power Supply: Super Flower SF750 R1499 (Need to double-check dimensions)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 I AORUS PRO WIFI R2499
Ram: G.skill Ripjaws 3600mhz R1689
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600 R3699
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L12S R849
GPU: 1660 Super R3799 or 2060 R5499 (Full HD Resolution for gaming)
NVME: Mushkin 1TB R2499

Thoughts/Opinions? I prefer a Gigabyte/Asus motherboard. Or maybe I should go with Intel?

You might need to look for a itx power supply.
