The PC Build Thread

Tiles work as well :). But grounding yourself every so often isn't a bad idea and the case is metal so touch it before dealing with the mobo, touch it before putting it in.
Only helps if the case is grounded, ie power supply is installed and the power cable is plugged into a grounded plug socket. And if the part you touch is conductive, ie not painted.

But honestly this static thing is like the PC assembly boogie Man, just need the smallest ounce of common sense and you'll be fine. I've built a PC in the US winter where everything is super dry and static is everywhere, on a carpet floor, with no issues (it's still working 10+ years later after having traversed the globe twice and multiple disassembles).

PC components have come a long way since static was such a major concern.. it's extremely difficult to blow something up with static these days.. that does not mean you should take unnecessary chances though.. still be sensible about it, just don't be deathly afraid of it..

look how they go completely overboard to try and kill a component with static:

And in kzn along the coast with all the humidity it's really a non-issue.

Morning members, so I was up till 12 last night finishing the build and I’m pretty wrecked with worry at the moment. So the pc turns on but there’s no display and the monitor doesn’t recognise any input signals. Pc lights up fans all spinning keyboard and mouse light up but looks like everything is fine but just nothing showing up on display no post or anything. I held in the power button after waiting like 10 mins because I went to bed and I’ve heard first post takes a little while but now It’s been another 10 mins since I’ve turned it this morning and still nothing. Please help

I’ve reset the ram already and my motherboard has a flash bios button but I don’t really know what that does and I don’t wanna press it Willy nilly.

Extra info there is a red led on the mobo that says “boot” it just stays lit up red the whole time. Is that correct?

Make sure you plugged all the cables into mobo. Not just the large mobo connector. Also the small power connector top left usually

Have you tried connecting to the motherboard's onboard video connector?

Remove the graphics card then try again. Remember the graphics card usually needs a separate power connection.

Yeah I tried that but I left gpu plugged in while using the mobo hdmi port. Also getting nothing from that. If it will help I will remove the gpu and try again. Do I need to have a usb with win10 on it to get into the bios ?

Seems weird that there’s absolutely nothing even registering on the monitor.

That won't work on most Ryzen systems, the motherboard doesn't have a GPU onboard for a very long time. The CPU would carry the GPU and in Ryzen cases it would only be the G series that do and in Intel there are some without GPUs as well.
So removing the graphics card and plugging into the motherboards hdmi port is going to achieve little if the CPU hasn't got a GPU onboard.

Yeah I thought as much but I was desperate and I thought to get into bios utility you didn’t need gpu but luckily I got it sorted. Now just to figure out how to install windows.

Is there any settings I need to change in the bios?

I don’t really wanna fiddle too much but I did change my ram to 3200mhz from 2166mhz

Shouldn't need to really fiddle just for the sake of fiddling. You've done the RAM thing so you should be a for away.

You don't need an OS installed to access the BIOS, just for future reference.

RAM is the main one. Just check your boot device sequence that it checks for USB first, then restart with the Win10 usb in and it should boot from that. Once Windows is installed you can go back to BIOS and change the setting to start with HDD.
