He seems to be coming around to AMD system, but will see - thanks guys for yhe input.
Don't do it.

Do you want to be blamed for every crash, for every game that doesn't launch, every time the sound stutters while windows does something, every in-game stutter?
Let fanboys be fanboys and make your own life easy.

What??

My AMD Covid, build is still running perfectly. :)

Mine as well, but some games have stutters on any system (e.g. Jedi survivor). BG 3 had a known and documented crash when you use Vulkan instead of DX12. RDR 2 had a crash when using sunbeam. My windows audio stuttered sometimes for a week or two and fixed itself when I move my USB dongle to a different port.
All these things would probably have happened on an intel system as well, but that won't stop someone from blaming AMD.

You know what is scary, my sons AMD COVID build is coming up to 4 years old, even the 2060super is old now. It's like wtf how did that fly by.
The good thing is prices come down. I paid R6k for my 5700G when it launched. I now see the Aliexpress shop I buy used processors from now have then for half that price!

Yup his was early COVID so prices weren't bad yet, but at one point wow prices shot up badly. I managed to sell an RX580 for double the price I paid for it in 2019, I sold a 1660ti for the same price I paid for it 2 years previously, the prices were ridiculous.

No, no idea, he has just always used Intel, and never AMD. When he grew up AMD was difficult to get hold of, and Intel always had an edge.

Told him I got AMD, as CPU and motherboards, where cheaper and performance was as good or better.

He still favours Intel.

But if you can give me options, and I can get him to check benchmarks, which he used to like. He may decide otherwise.

Fortunately it is his money, not mine.
hes the laaitie, klap him and tell him to come right.

AMD is a better value proposition nowadays, AM4 is still viable even

I’m trying to install Windows 7 on a Ryzen 3600 system but it won’t boot - do I need to change a bios setting?

Use Windows 10, why are you using Windows 7?
I am using Windows 11, but the installation media is a USB drive that was inserted into a friend’s PC who torrents too much so I don’t trust it anymore. My dad has Windows 7/XP dvds so the idea is to install from there on to the other PC, and use it to create a new clean installation USB.

AMD COVID builds unite

Mines still going strong too.
COVID lockdown, in retrospect, was the greatest thing to happen to humanity.
Going from a “H” series notebook (whatever the Skylake equivalent) was to a Ryzen 7 5900x for work daily-driving

This is insanity.
Download the Windows 10 installation media from Microsoft's website - https://www.microsoft.com/en-za/software-download/windows10

Create a bootable USB and install that way. You are building a wagon and then upgrading it to a car.

I currently run windows 10 but I do have a use for running windows 7 some games or applications don’t run on windows 10 even under compatibility mode and work fine on 7

Did it temporarily to use an old app and dual booted 7 and 10 which did work well until a few windows updates messed it up

That’s exactly what I’m trying to do, but the MS media creation tool only works on Windows. My main PC has Fedora installed , the M1 doesn’t do bootcamp.

No I’m using the wagon (non writable media) to take delivery of the software so it isn’t compromised. As a MI fan you should know that this is the perfect solution. Can’t infect the analog with the digital!

Anyway, I think I’ll just burn the iso if by some miracle I can find a blank dvd. Or wait to use somebody else’s PC.
