The RTX 4000 Thread

I have been asking myself that very question.

I have been saving for an all-out mega gaming PC build by the end of the year. But increasingly I’m questioning whether the entertainment return on investment is justified.

My Series X is holding me down pretty well. I could just add a PS5 and call it a day at a fraction of the cost. I’m not even a Windows user, so the gaming PC would serve no purpose beyond gaming.

I do miss the precision of mouse control in some games, but I recall there are gadgets to enable that on console.

In the case these rumours are true, then Nvidia might be in trouble. Now there is a rumour that AMD's top GPUs aren't measuring up to Nvidia and now this is saying that AMD has 2 times their rasterisation which would destroy the 4090’s crown, and that RT is more than 2 times. All vague, but such a good rumour could make potential buyers wait a bit longer. For all I know AMD doubled their bench in one app or game. Time will tell.

What a day it will be when AMD really beats Nvidia in Raw performance and not this value for money gotcha. But I doubt that that day is now

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To be fair they pulled into off v.s. Intel with Ryzen within 2 generations. I could see them doing the same for GPUs

Cant see that day coming , they have always been one step behind. Every time nvidia launches a new generation Gpu the rumors start going around that this is they year AMD takes it and every time around they end up in second place.

I honestly have more hope for Intel's celestial gpu range to eventually beat Nvidia than i do for AMD.

They wont be in trouble, AMD answer to DLSS is a joke :P

Not as long as intel sticks with DX emulation/layer translation for older DX titles they won't be winning any tortoise and hare races. While AMD and nvidia have dropped hardware support similarly for some DX versions as it is cheaper for the overall chip design, as far as I am aware both AMD and Nivdia still has hardware level support for DX9.

If the Intel GPU division stays afloat long enough they will be focusing all their efforts in the mid tier GPU section for several generations before even considering the high end. Currently the division is a money pit and won't see anyone worthwhile positive cash flow for some time. Additionally intel has only integrated system builders for boards partners, it will be some time before other than system builders sign up as board partners and properly flood the market as an alternative GPU provider.

Intel's focus on the mid tier market penetration is well founded as that is where the most GPU's are being sold.Intel will not be beating AMD or nvidia anytime soon if at all.

AMD has had winning generations in the relatively recent past.
They also often offered better value at the top end.

Leak, not credible, but could be indicative,

GeekBench,

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 gets tested in Geekbench, 30% to 37% faster than RTX 3080

...

According to the official ranking, the RTX 4080 is 45.7% faster than RTX 3080 in CUDA test, 37.1% faster in OpenCL and 29.9% faster in Vulkan API. In comparison to the fastest Ampere GPU (RTX 3090 Ti) it is 5.4% to 15.5% faster.

Obviously, the Geekbench test is far from accurate comparison for gamers. This is a very short and relatively light test that oftentimes does not even engage the fans on the GPU. So take that into consideration.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB 3DMark Benchmark Leaks Out, Up To 62% Faster Than RTX 3080

It is hard to say that Nvidia must be kicked in the ass when it is the competition who needs to disrupt the market. Steve should know that. Consumers vote with their own money, and as long as people are buying Nvidia at these price points they will continue to do so.

I have seen it so many times when people get behind Team Red, applaud its high-end, tell everyone that it is the cards everyone must buy only to show everybody that he/she got a 4080 and that the benchmarks are ridiculous.

The market numbers show this, but then some smart ass will say that it is because Nvidia sold GPUs to miners against the gamers best wishes, uhm, AMD does it too.

On the Steam hardware charts, which AMD GPU has the largest Steam share?

We've got power draw figures and performance per Watt data for every single GPU tested at 1080p, 1440p and 4K - so we can definitively say the 4080 is the most efficient GPU we've ever tested. You can find that starting page 28 of the review (linked here:)

I am curious now whether the RX 7900 XT / XTX will beat these scores. The 4080's only drawback is its price, because does size really matter?

With the RTX4090 and the RTX4000 series in general its major advantage is 4K gaming and graphic editor. So unless you are planning to game in 4K the benefits are limited and in most real life scenarios the RTX 3070 and 3080 are sufficient.
But that's not to says the 40 series are not a fantastic card.
Just know what you doing with it.
But avoid the flagship card as the power cable are prone to get burnt.
