The Silver Surfer Thread (iBurst 2Mbps Modem)

Darn, am away for a week and I miss all the excitement. Hmmm! A 2 MB modem! Yay! R3499 Argh! So a 24 month contractwould be the only way to go... Hmm, decisions, decisions....

Do we need to buy the external antenna splitter separately?

ya i got my statement yesterday, on the email they had the pricing its just for the modem that coems to R4296 **** thats too expensive, i guess ill have to start saving for a few months, if i realy want a 2mb modem

Eish... cheaper for me to go to a WIMAX provider

R 3500 for the 2MB modem? I don't know whether to laugh or to cry....

Laughter seems the most approriate at the mere fact that it is ridiculously over-priced.

From iBurst's website:

In our latest billing communiqué, we mentioned the new 2Mbps modem, and were so enthralled with it,
we told you the price for the prepaid modem only, and forgot to mention the price on upfront purchases and contract pricing!

WERE SORRY!
We hate to inconvenience you, so were really sorry we got it wrong!

GET IT RIGHT!
OK, so whats the deal? Our fantastic new 2Mbps modem is priced as follows:

R1299 Prepaid bundles

R3499 Upfront purchases

R179/month x 24 months 24-Month contracts

Sometimes these little omissions happen but we try and catch them before they make a mountain out of a molehill!
Thanks to those of you who let us know about the error we appreciate your input!

Kind regards,

The iBurst Team

I believe the Prepaid prices per GB are so much more expensive than Contract and month2month.

The prices subsidize the modem on Prepaid.

So I might well just be doff, but how do these prices tie in with the various packages we're on? I don't understand the prepaid and upfront options, and the R179 a month, is that just for the modem, and then your package price is added to it? If so, that makes the whole deal pretty expensive?

Why is the Prepaid 2mbit modem R1299 ? (Obviously the price per meg is much higher sure..., but surely the price of the modem is R1299)

Think about it, what if you bought it on prepaid and then decided not to buy a single meg. (THen they sold a 2mbit modem for R1299) <--- Am i wrong?

Obviously they sell it like that, to make more money on the Prepaid , which is ruffly R500 for 750MB data bundle that can be used over 3months (bundle is basically R0.67 per meg)

The catch is u cant then move it over to month2month or contract, the modem is bound to a prepaid account
