The Sony X1 Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

thats the north america rom? what rom where you on before that? can we jump between roms?

I was on the origional UK ROM, installed the NAM ROM and no problem, I see the new UK ROM is out so maybe i'll change again at some stage but this ROM seems to be pretty stable.

im noticing a bunch of differences on the R2A firmware. and i cant put my fingers on what some of them are.

somehow the phone just seems sweeter. its faster, every menu is faster, the way you type text seems faster. somehow even the graphics look new.... i couldnt imagine them being new but its almost as if the graphics are higher res or better colour and contrast i dunno. the video cam is taking sweet video in the new high frame rate setting... nice one.

what else you guys pick up?

You probably right. Although I thought the UK one was official??

Thats why i said, "official official"... the one Se posts on their servers... Dont wanna be messing with firmware and stuff.... just me being square...

these are the exact same ones you would be using if you did it thru the update service (only the update service is MUCH slower to download)

the R2A firmware is the R2A firmware.... this is not what they called a "cooked" rom

that said it still can be a tricky and potentially hazardous venture for some people....

I am some people...

you would have to re install tom tom... even if you did install tom tom to the memory card it would have written certain things to registry which after firmware upgrade would be wiped clean....

nick do you have an MTN x1 or a vodacom version? if mtn then your generic version should be available soon if not already. a vodacom version is going to take a while longer

On vodacom... dont mind waiting... only got the phone on sunday... so still learning it... 1st WinMo phone... also, it will be a nice suprise when it does come out...

I never take it to vodacom to do upgrade (older phones), always do them my self with the SE update service... when will the SE update service have an update?

@Marine1

Hows your battery life using TomTom? I have ver 7.5 with 720 map loaded on my X1 (Couldn't get 7.9 to recognise maps) but it chews my battery...

I got tom tom to work - Marine1's files - but cant get the maps... not on bitfarm... i found South African maps on another torrents site... but cant get the tom tom to pick them up... also, got no voices either...

when i finally get it working, i will report on the battery...

On the battery though, on when i picked the phone up (on sunday), i used what was left on the battery, the tunred the phone off, and charged it for over 9 hours...

Then yesterday, the battery lasted me until like 8pm last night... is this normal? one day of usage.. sure, i installed programs and played a bit, but i was really suprised...

I read a post on the forum that one guy had two days of excessive use... dont see how that is possible...

How do you guys use the phone in terms of battery? Is wifi + data conn always on? Bluetooth? when you plug it in your pc, are you charging the same time? Do you wait for it to go flat before you charge? and how long do you let it charge for?

Has anyone got this? Looks pretty awesome, but i havent had a good experience with screen protectors, so gonna be careful of what i get for my x1

EDIT: on reading more on this... how is meant to work on the X1? it has movable parts... i understand the iphone, but the x1 kinda has a qwerty keyboard on it, and it kinda slides out?
hence, has anyone got this?

When using the GPS, the battery is really bad but I would imagine this happens on all mobile devices.

So it's not just me. I need to get a car charger :)

I really like the X1. It works well for email, web browsing, office apps, navigation. The only issue I have with it is kinda fundamental tho' - The radio is crap. I have terrible connection (1 bar or less), dropped calls and poor data signal in areas where my P1 picks up 4 bars.

So as a PDA it's awesome... as a phone not so much.

Hello Folks

Hope you guys don't mind me joining. Just got my X1 about 2 weeks ago and LUVN it. Even the gf has been complaining about where my attentions are. LOL! Thanks for all the tips and useful info so far.

Gonna give the Garmin install a go some time soon.
