The Sony X1 Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

If you dont have to HardSBL do you loose all the things you have uploaded. Garmin, TouchFlo, pic and vids etc??

Oh and naturally is there a much benefit from upgrading to R2 from what i have read battery life as increased and boot time is faster. Anything else?

Anyone??????

I have found that almost everything is faster... from installing software, to just navigating the menus... program launches are faster, as well as the boot...

also, i never had the google panel, now i do... never use it though...

the phone just seems alot more action than talk since the rom update... know what i mean...

is it worth it? if you can get the old rom for warrenty issues, then yea... its worth it.

So AM i UNDERSTANDING THIS

you extract the Rom and rename it to kovsimg.nbh ?
then you move it to memory card which is formatted to fat32
then reset and enter boot menu( stripe coloured screen)
and it finds the image and updates?

No hardSPL or anyhting?

Also how do you plan to put the original rom back on if the phone has a problem and needs to be sent in under warrenty?

hmmm. in that case, i will smash it on the floor, and claim from insurance...

I've flashed my x1. Easy as pie.

overall the phone is a bit faster.

so far, the only thing that bugs me, is that the camera shutter sound cannot be switched off.

are those the steps you followed ?

Yip, just like that.

But I did hardSPL first. Dunno if it would've worked without hardSPL.

Remeber to backup your data

i think you only have to hardSPL the first time round... i didnt have to do it this time around coz i had done it in december...

wish we could identify properly what the hardspl thing actually means

kvi, I think it has something to do with the bootloader. I know there is a wiki on xda discussing what it does, but I'm pretty sure it allows the flashing of cooked ROMS.

I could be wrong ...

Yea spl basically it a bootloader (secondary "something" loader) and it like the middle man between the OS(WinMo 6.1) and the hardware. Similar to the Bios in a PC. It also restricts you from loading custom ROMs because it doesnt have the SE signature. So in other words you don't need to do a a hardSPL if you are flashing to a Generic uk from on MTN, but you do have to on vodacom because vodacom puts their own Hspl on the phone for vodaphone live

Thats my understanding anyway

makes sense... so the new ROM i installed is Generic UK and therefore has SE signiture and thats why i didnt have to hardspl

Howzit not sure if anyone else has tried out the new panel from PointUI, its called home2.

I have been using for the past day or two, seems to be a nice option like the Spb shell, and its free.

if you keen here is the link,

What apps are you guys using to back up your X1's

Just dont feel like going thru and having to install garmin and the rest of my apps again

the only thing I wish the phone had was a real piece of sony ericsson. like the abililty to change tracks by holding down vol button up/down and the battery icon that all SE phones have and the cool tools like voice recorder and using camera flash as torch and SOS signal and the charging optimized message when charger is plugged in...you know the small things....dont know if any of you can relate, but all the other sony ericssons i've owned have been special. they've been targeted at certain markets( walkman, cybershot, etc) but have always had something uniquely Sony Ericsson about them....This one doesn't....if it wasnt for the logo i wouldnt know it was an SE! and sure there is the Panel interface and the fish panel and the media panel which are awesome..but honestly I just dont see that magic my w880,w810,k850,t610 had...like I said it doesnt have the small details, but mayb it just me...

I agree 100%. Usability on the X1 sucks compared to all the SE phones I've used... Mainly because of WM... apps don't have consistency in UI. So the X1's strength is also its downfall.

As an email terminal, mobile web browser, PDA it is awesome. As a phone...hmmmmm
