The truth about Openweb

"This progressive ISP has yet again proven that quality ADSL does not have to cost much."

Talk of selling your soul to the devil....

Just bumping back up as I see someone else was caught recently - I wish this was a sticky

Good day all, please help me with your advice. I have been with OpenWeb for a good few years, and time came to cancel the account. I sent them an email requesting cancellation on 21.09 and then on 23.09, got generic replies, tried to call them but their number is manned by the robot, no humans there. Even filled the form on the site, no confirmation received, then they asked med to send cancellation form by email, that was already pass 25th. September. Long story short, now they say -
----
We sincerely appreciate your email.

The way in which to cancel is with a cancellation form
The cancellations department will use the date they received your notification to cancel your account
---

Surely, my request to cancel should be sufficient reason to cancel by the end of October, not November, just because their system is broken?
Should I just block the debit order? It seems like impossible task to get some sort of understanding from their side...

It's the Openweb way of business, ignore, stall, rinse and repeat, all whilst billing you for a service you aren't using.

These guys know how to walk in the grey area like pros, what can you really do but be grateful once you've finally ripped the leech off..

Cancellation forms are normal now. I was criticizing its use for another ISP the other day and my opinions got shot down.

What I nightmare... I've just lodged a complaint online with the consumer protector. I tried OpenWeb services month to month option end Jan 2017 and within 5 days the 20mbps line was giving me an average of 2mbps so requested cancellation. I was advised a month's notice must be given, so I sent mails to the same ********** on 5th Feb & 19th March requesting confirmation of cancellation and got on with my life. I did not receive any further correspondence and not a single invoice or statement after that. In December 2017 my credit card was replaced and unbeknown to me the debit orders that I was unaware of from Openweb, that had being going off my card stopped & in May 2018 I get called by Credit Intel that my account for Jan-April 2018 with Openweb has been handed over. What a crock of Sh*t. We've made multiple calls and sent multiple further emails and I've been advised that I need to prove that I cancelled online... I can't even recall anymore. However, no statement or invoices were ever sent the entire 2017 to alert me to this account not being cancelled... that's just devious in my opinion. You can't get hold of anyone to speak to and they've billed me for a year and a half for 5 days of usage in 2017 that was cancelled by me on 2 occasions due to their non performance. They deserve to be shut down and an example made of them. What an absolute disgrace. Please comment and add your voice if you've had the same experience or similar. Also please visit http://www.cgso.org.za the consumer protector and lodge your complaint online so that OpenWebs deceptive cancellation policies that rip off consumers can be addressed and stopped.

How do you not notice you're being debited for over a year ...

On openweb... HTF do they still have customers.
