Indian please. Not this Cape Malay rubbish or Durban stuff

Of course.

I do have to say though, I love the (very distinct) smell of Cape Malay curry dishes. But it is almost a cuisine on its own.

If you're making a coconut flavoured curry then a dollop of coconut wine or liquor would give the base far more flavour than any stock could.

I think you mean more than any coconut milk would? The stock is for a completely different flavour and adds more depth to the curry sauce.

I have never cooked with coconut wine or coconut liquor before. Only ever used fresh grated or the milk. I like the milk because it adds a creaminess to the dish without adding dairy and the sweetness of it balances the acidity in tomato dishes as well. Will have a look for coconut wine and liquor on Google.

EDIT: by liquor do you mean like a Malibu type drink?

Do you honestly think that in my, errm, particular situation, I do not cook these things from scratch, hmm?

You've still not posted your recipe, so no. I suspect you order in from Mr Khan's Curry Corner shortly before Mr Blu gets home and then decant it into pots...:p

cook with coconut wine as well as coconut milk here's one in India http://www.newspostindia.com/report-36286

I'm partial to ALL India's regional cooking but fondest of Southern India cooking- hotter and fierier.

Ah no, that's not fair. And it's not the case either.

Well you keep threatening to cook me a curry and you still haven't posted your recipe. OK, I'll be nice for a change and give you the benefit of the doubt in this case...:)

Damn, that wine sounds good! Is it available in JHB anywhere that you know of?

Nope. Bought a bottle back with me from the Phillipines. But that Indian stuff is probably similiar.

Famous smoked salmon starter:
Like this:
Put lettuce on plate.
Put salmon on lettuce (rocket scientists can create 'roses' if they please).
Squeeze lemon over the lot.
Gloat as everyone marvels at the elegant (and delicious) simplicity of your plate.

Thanks Lino.

I bought a lot of pre-spiced meat from United Meat Suppliers in Fordsburg, so I am unable to share the recipes - I WISH I knew how they do it :)

So the past week, I'd just grilled one of those packets of meat and added some veggies and a salad.
