I like using Royco packet sauces with dishes as well, those stuff are a real timesaver.
Salti-crax time of the month, so cooked up half a packet of spaghetti (in microwave), mixed in some veri-peri and Wellingtons sweet-chill sauce.

I think it's to do with ingredients. If you want to make two portions of a sauce it isn't worthwhile to buy all those expensive things.Why do you not make your own sauces?

If you haven't got nutmeg, for example, then it looks expensive to buy.Flour, butter, milk, cheese, salt and pepper - the slight cost increase is justified by the flavour of a proper white sauce base vs a packet of artificial flavouring and some chemical thickeners. And it takes 15 minutes on the side while you cooking something else at the same time...
