The weight loss thread

I'm learning that this process is damn difficult and once you let go, its harder to get going again. So I try to keep consistency with eating and training.
Agree. As suggested by konfab, I weigh myself daily and that keeps me in line. It may sound excessive but whatever works. :)

What I experienced is that first 3kg was easiest to shed and then weight goes down slowly, hits a plateau for sometimes up to 2 weeks and then goes down if you persist.

Didn't really need another scale, but decided to pick up a Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale 2 since I'm already using the Zepp life app with the Mi Band 7 so it could provide some interesting additional data. First impression of the scale is that it's pretty neat and can be harsh with it's results. :)

Not ideal weigh-in time. 78.9 kg

Compared to my existing scale which measured 78.2 kg this morning that seems to be in line. Body fat % is about 1.5 % higher on the Mi Scale

As with all these body weight composition scales it best to compare the metrics from the scale itself over time to see drops/increases. They aren't all that accurate as static data points, but a good indicator of trends.

It will be fun to keep track of the other stuff it measures (although I'm not sure how on earth it measure the protein intake?!). Plus it says my body age is 33 which is awesome.

OVERALL STATS:
Start 2023: 106.5 kg
Start 2024: 81.3 kg
End Jan: 80.8 kg (-0.5 kg)
End Feb: 79.6 kg (-1.2 kg)

Projected as 90 next week - yeah. Tennis & swimming was cancelled so didn't get benefit of water loss. :)

Daily fluctuation is a pain especially Mondays when I normally weigh quite a bit higher than normally. Back up to 79.6 kg on the Mi scale.

Strangely there seems to be a 400g (higher) difference between the Mi scale and my other scale when weighing body weight. If you weigh an object they match.

Indeed, daily fluctuation is annoying but that is self-inflicted pain. LOL.

My scale has me at 29.9% body fat.

These days, I take 1-2kg margin for water retention.

Finally, all that marketing has taken its toll due to weight plateau for more than 3 weeks. I have ordered some lean protein powder and will see if that helps as a evening meal replacement. I honestly can't do any more exercise or cut anything really.

You might not want to hear this, but I'd give it more time. Your body can take quite a bit of time after losing lots of weight to find equilibrium and start dropping again.

How many steps a day are you getting in? Adding 2000 extra steps is a relatively easy way to just add a tiny bit of more movement in your day without it feeling like exercise.

Yeah, I am just getting impatient after initial results of 2 months. Thanks for this. I will try to add 2000 extra steps just by walking around the complex.

Anyone knows if this is a good scale?

Didn't see this one on the day but I have heard of many issues with onedayonly site. Delivery is not an issue but not really responsive on returns etc. Search "onedayonly" on mybb site.

I got this at recommendation from konfab and it is great. I bought it for R399 though so if you can wait for a while, good chances TAL will drop it again soon.

Added to my wishlist. Will probably buy with my next TAL order which will be soon.

BTW, I have never had any issues with one day only, pretty sure I have returned a item as well.

91.1kg - fought back hard with diet & exercise since last week and pulled back gain a bit. Had a negative effect on BP (very low) last evening so I think I will chill a bit now.

Very very consistent over a long period of time so well done. You said your target is 75 or something close ?

Yes, my initial dream goal last year was to get to 85 kg. According to BMI my ideal weight is 65 kg, but that's definitely not going to happen. Next goal is to hit 75 and then see if it can get lower.

I am not sure if I should go by BMI alone as there could be other factors.

My max weight is supposed to be 75 which was probably my weight during college years. I was fit back then so would be lekker. 16kg to go.

I believe BMI is more geared for couch potatoes. I think fat percentage is a better measure if you exercise regularly.

BMI is completely useless. It makes no allowances for build/muscle.
If I got down to 0% body fat I would still have an unhealthy BMI.

OK I lie. 24.4 which is right at the top end of healthy...25 and up is considered overweight.
